The extended reality (XR) industry is a high value-added convergence industry with expected future growth. In order to strengthen domestic industrial competitiveness, it is essential to establish a convergence and organic cooperation system between XR devices, core components, and service companies (content, software, etc.).

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) held the 2nd Steering Committee of the 'XR Convergence Industry Alliance' on the 16th at the headquarters of LetinAR, an augmented reality optical module developer.

The event analyzed recent XR industry trends, including Apple's launch of Vision Pro, and discussed cooperative measures to activate XR industry-academia-research exchanges, expand commercialization, and global advancement based on this.

Companies attending the meeting made suggestions such as: △Establishing a foundation for technology exchange between industries such as semiconductors, displays, and optics; △Fostering talent for convergence of XR core element technologies; and △Supporting verification projects based on domestic XR devices.

Lee Seung-ryeol, Director of the Industrial Policy Office, emphasized, “In order for the domestic XR ecosystem to be activated, corporate investment and active exchange and cooperation between the device, component, and content industries are essential.” He added, “The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy will continue to support the development of core component technologies such as ultra-high-resolution micro displays and optical modules, and the training of master’s and doctoral level personnel in the virtual and augmented reality fields, while also promoting the development of business models linked to demand industries such as manufacturing, energy, and healthcare, and supporting verification projects.”o; was revealed.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has been operating the Extended Reality XR Convergence Industry Alliance since June of last year, with the participation of major companies, associations, organizations and support organizations across the XR ecosystem.
