Infineon Technologies (Korea CEO Seungsoo Lee) is expected to launch a security element that can easily add Matter standards and security to smart home devices, improving developer convenience and shortening development time.

Infineon announced on the 27th the launch of OPTIGA™ Trust M MTR, which enables easy integration of Matter standards and security features into smart home and smart building devices.

This Secure Element, which has obtained Matter certification, is combined with Matter provisioning services.

According to forecasts from ABI Research, the number of smart home devices worldwide is expected to double to approximately 1.7 billion by 2030.

All these devices must be able to connect securely and reliably with each other and with the rest of the smart home ecosystem.

The Matter standard provides seamless interoperability between connected devices from different manufacturers.

The Matter Protocol defines a set of principles to support consistent security and privacy measures for smart homes. Smart homes rely on smart devices to enhance convenience, efficiency, and security.

This tamper-resistant security controller can be easily integrated into your system to perform security-related functions and provide a high level of protection for sensitive data and cryptographic operations.

The discrete security element, OPTIGA Trust M MTR, can be integrated into any MCU-based design to enhance security and handle multiple product protocols simultaneously.

This allows OEMs to increase flexibility and reduce development time.

According to the Matter Protocol, every smart home device must have a Device Attestation Certificate (DAC) that contains a Product ID (PID) and a Vendor ID (VID) to verify the authenticity and trustworthiness of the device commissioned into the Matter ecosystem.

With OPTIGA Trust M MTR, there is no need to predefine PIDs when ordering or manufacturing reels.

Instead, each device is injected with a personalized DAC just before production.

This allows device manufacturers to create more flexible product variations of smart home devices.

The OPTIGA Trust M MTR security chip is pre-provisioned in Infineon facilities that have achieved Common Criteria certification.

The security chip batch is shipped in reels with the corresponding barcode. Customers can claim ownership of the chip by scanning the barcode on the IoT portal of Infineon partner Kudelski IoT.

Kudelski IoT is a trusted Product Attestation Authority (PAA) approved by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA). Through Kudelski IoT, you can download the production DAC corresponding to your vendor and product. Finally, the factory transmits the personalized DAC to the OPTIGA Trust M MTR.
