Infineon Technologies (hereafter Infineon) announced that it is supporting a family of MCUs optimized for machine learning (ML) applications, along with system development tools and ML software.

Infineon today announced a new PSoC™ Edge MCU family optimized for machine learning (ML) applications, offering flexible, scalable and compatible options in performance, features and memory.

Infini's new PSoC™ Edge E8 series products, the E81, E83, and E84, are supported by easy-to-develop system development tools and ML software, enabling developers to quickly transform their ideas into products for IoT, consumer, and industrial application markets.

Infineon’s new PSoC™ Edge E8 series features the high-performance Arm® Cortex®-M55 with Helium™ DSP as the main processor and includes the Ethos™-U55 NPU (Neural Processing Unit) to support machine learning at the edge.

The subprocessor includes an Arm® Cortex®-M33 with Infineon’s proprietary hardware NNLite neural network accelerator.

It also provides a rich set of peripherals, on-chip memory, robust hardware security, and a variety of connectivity options (USB HS/FS PHY, CAN, Ethernet, WiFi 6, BTBLE, Matter) to fully support a wide range of applications.

The PSOC Edge E8 series is suitable for HMI (Human Machine Interface) used in home appliances and industrial devices, smart home and security systems, robotics, and wearables.

All three series – E81, E83, and E84 – support voice/audio sensing for voice recognition, and the E83 and E84 MCUs in particular are designed to enable advanced HMIs with enhanced features such as ML-based wake-up, vision-based position detection, and face/object recognition.

Additionally, the E84 series supports low-power graphics displays (up to 1028x768), making it suitable for application designs that include displays that require low power.
