Huawei announced plans to improve network productivity by collaborating with mobile operators to build a RAN intelligent agent ecosystem.

Huawei announced on the 28th at MWC Shanghai 2024 that it plans to introduce AI into its network. Eric Zhao, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Huawei’s Wireless Solutions Business Unit, participated as a keynote speaker at the MWC Shanghai 5G-A & AI Roundtable and stated, “Huawei plans to deploy 1,000 field engineers and support 10,000 sites in Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Jinan, Shenzhen, and Bangkok within six months.”

Huawei stated, “As 5G-A commercialization rolls out in 2024, mobile networks are facing various challenges regarding complex operation and maintenance (O&M), differentiated network characteristics, and diverse experience-based operations,” adding, “To support this, Huawei will introduce AI into the network to build RAN intelligent agents capable of reconfiguring network O&M, experiences, and services, thereby improving network productivity.”

In this process, the RAN intelligent agent provides copilots supporting role-based chatbots and agents for scenario-based solution automation.

In particular, Huawei described its newly launched industry-first field maintenance engineer copilot as an AI-based assistance technology that automatically generates solution policies based on extensive expertise. It explained that this improves efficiency in the field tenfold and enables the smooth handling of optical path failures.

In addition, the RAN intelligent agent provides an optimized experience and energy-saving policies through multidimensional, high-precision real-time sensing. It can operate reliably for thousands of hours in an area consisting of 223 cells. Huawei stated, “This is the first time such automated network O&M has been implemented in cooperation with a mobile operator.”

RAN intelligent agents support experience-based service operations through real-time evaluation of network resources. Mobile carriers receive new services immediately when they are needed.
