Ericsson Launches Joint Venture 'Aduna' to Leverage Network APIs

Global telecommunications equipment company Ericsson is establishing a joint venture for network API integration and sales, aiming to launch within this year, and is moving full-scale toward expanding the use of network APIs.
Ericsson announced that it has finalized the name of its joint venture for network API integration and sales as 'Aduna' and appointed Anthony Bartolo as its new CEO.
Aduna is a joint venture established by Ericsson and 12 global telecommunications companies in September of last year, and aims to drive industry innovation by enabling developers around the world to utilize common network APIs.
The name 'Aduna' comes from the Latin word meaning unity of several entities.
New CEO Anthony Bartolo is a technology professional with over 30 years of experience, including expanding global businesses, driving new business strategies, and fostering collaboration across diverse teams.
He served as COO at Vonage and Bandwidth, and as Vice President and Chief Product Officer (CPO) at Avaya, a US network solutions company.
He has experience in transforming Avaya into a software-as-a-service company and increasing annual recurring revenue (ARR) by 11 times.
Arduino is a network API integration and sales platform.It enables developers to implement applications anytime, anywhere, regardless of the network, and supports new use cases by increasing accessibility to advanced network capabilities.
Arduino's network API is based on the industry-wide adopted CAMARA API.
“Anthony Bartolo has a proven track record of executing successful strategies in rapidly changing business environments and is a recognized leader in the industry,” said Niklas Heuveldop, head of Ericsson’s Global Communication Platforms business unit. “He is the right person to bring Aduna’s vision to life.”
“Arduna enables developers to leverage open, programmable networks with a unified API, enabling global hyperscalers to deliver innovative capabilities,” said Anthony Bartolo, CEO of Arduna. “I am honored to join Arduna and help shape the future of technology, communications, and telecommunications.”
Anthony Bartolo will officially begin his term on January 20, 2025, and the joint venture is expected to launch later this year.
