Microchip Technology is accelerating the transition to open standards for automotive connectivity.

Microchip announced today that it has successfully demonstrated interoperability between its AVIVA Links and ASA Motion Link (ASA-ML)-based chipsets.

This is considered an important milestone that accelerates the feasibility and market diffusion of the ASA-ML open standard proposed by the Automotive SerDes Alliance (ASA).

ASA-ML is an asymmetric high-speed communication standard that connects in-vehicle cameras, sensors, and displays, supporting data transmission of up to 16 Gbps.

With the advancement of ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) and IVI (In-Vehicle Infotainment) systems, demand for high-bandwidth connectivity in vehicles is rapidly increasing, and ASA-ML is attracting attention as a scalable and flexible solution that meets these needs.

Microchip was the first major semiconductor company to bring the ASA-ML chipset to market, along with VSI Ltd. We strengthened our technology base through acquisitions.

This interoperability demonstration with Aviva Lynx builds on recent achievements, including providing an ASA-ML camera development platform for the Japanese market.

Aviva Lynx is a company poised to be acquired by NXP Semiconductors, further increasing industry confidence in ASA-ML adoption.

“The ASA-ML interoperability demonstration demonstrates the real-world benefits of open standards,” said Kevin So, vice president of Microchip’s communications business unit. “OEMs and tier-one suppliers can now get secure, scalable connectivity based on ASA-ML without fear of lock-in.”

ASA-ML provides high-speed connectivity essential for implementing ADAS L2 and L2+ autonomous driving applications, while simultaneously ensuring vehicle platform design flexibility and supply chain stability.

ASA members include more than 175 global OEMs, including BMW, Hyundai-Kia, GM, and Ford, and are actively cooperating to commercialize ASA-ML-based systems.
