At the 'SK AI Summit 2025' held on the 3rd, SK Telecom CEO Jeong Jae-heon announced an AI infrastructure construction roadmap and presented a vision for strengthening Korea's AI competitiveness as a national AI operator.

In his keynote speech that day, CEO Jaeheon Jeong unveiled the 'Now & Next of AI Infra' strategy, including expansion of the Ulsan AI Data Center (DC), construction of a manufacturing AI cloud, and collaboration on edge AI and AI-RAN technologies.

SK Telecom plans to expand the Ulsan AI DC to a total capacity of over 1 GW, securing a domestic AI infrastructure base connecting the metropolitan area, Gyeongnam, and the southwestern region.

This is a strategy to attract global capital and foster Korea as Asia's largest AI hub.

SK Group recently signed an MOU with OpenAI, establishing a multilateral cooperation to establish an AI DC in the southwestern region.

The Vietnam project, being promoted in collaboration with SK Innovation, is a model that secures stable power based on LNG power plants and increases AI DC cooling efficiency through the use of cold energy.

SK Telecom plans to expand its AI DC business to countries such as Malaysia and Singapore, and begin to make full-scale inroads into the Southeast Asian market.

SK Telecom is working with AWS to commercially test 'edge AI'.

Edge AI is a technology that improves ultra-low latency, security, and network efficiency by processing data at base stations or edge servers rather than sending it to the cloud.

Additionally, NVIDIA signed an MOU with the government and academia for joint research and demonstration of AI-RAN (Intelligent Base Station) technology. AI-RAN is attracting attention as a key infrastructure for the expansion of manufacturing AI.

SK Telecom is building a manufacturing AI cloud by deploying approximately 2,000 NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 GPUs. This cloud will support the AI transition of SK Group manufacturers, including SK Hynix, and maximize productivity and efficiency in manufacturing sites through digital twin and robotic AI technologies.

CEO Jeong Jae-heon said, “SK Telecom plans to evolve into an ‘AI DC comprehensive business operator’ that oversees the entire process from design to construction and operation, and commercialize an ‘AI DC solution package’ that internalizes core technologies such as Out-rack, Clustering, In-rack, and Energy.”
