Power semiconductor company Infineon Technologies is leading the global semiconductor industry's transition to sustainability by switching to 100 percent green power across all of its operations worldwide.

Infineon announced on the 12th that it has completed the transition to eco-friendly power at its global operations, a key milestone toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.

This achievement is the result of Infineon significantly exceeding its interim target of reducing Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 70 percent by 2025 compared to 2019, achieving a reduction of more than 80 percent.

During the same period, sales more than doubled, proving that eco-friendly management and corporate growth can be achieved in parallel.

In addition, Infineon secured the credibility of its sustainability strategy by receiving verification of its science-based reduction targets from the international initiative SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative) in May.

“Infineon’s semiconductors are a key technology for decarbonization amidst growing global energy demand,” said Elke Reichardt, Head of Digital and Sustainability at Infineon. “It is a significant achievement that all our sites are now powered by 100 percent green electricity.”

Infineon has been gradually switching its global production facilities to green energy sources to reduce CO₂ emissions and increase resource efficiency during its manufacturing process.

Starting with the European business site in 2021, North America in 2022, Malaysia (Kulim and Melaka) in 2023, and China in 2024-2025.·Conversion to production facilities in Indonesia and Singapore has been completed.

With this, Infineon has met the RE100 standards, a global corporate renewable energy transition campaign.

To secure eco-friendly power, Infineon has signed long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with wind and solar power plants in Germany and Spain, and is building its own solar power generation facilities in Kulim and Melaka, Malaysia.

Solar power generation is already in operation at major business sites such as Warstein-Regensburg, Germany, Villach, Austria, Wuxi, China, and Singapore.

Infineon estimates that this transition will avoid approximately 975,150 tons of CO₂ emissions per year.

This is considered a significant reduction in scale by the industry, considering the high power consumption characteristic of the semiconductor manufacturing industry.

Infineon plans to accelerate its 2030 carbon neutrality goal by strengthening its sustainability strategy, including expanding the use of eco-friendly power, improving energy efficiency, and reducing carbon emissions across its supply chain.
