Offensive cybersecurity firm Theory is partnering with Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) to conduct joint research and develop talent in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and information security. Amidst the increasing sophistication of security threats due to the proliferation of generative AI, the goal is to strengthen response capabilities by combining the university's research infrastructure with the practical expertise of private companies.

On February 19th, Theori announced that it would establish an industry-academia collaboration with Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) and jointly research AI system security technology. The collaboration will center around the Department of Computer Engineering at POSTECH and focus on developing technologies to enhance security and stability in AI-based service environments.

The two organizations plan to explore research projects aimed at implementing efficient and secure system serving structures in diverse application environments, including multimodal, physical, and agentic AI. In this process, they will share their technical expertise with "αprism," a large language model (LLM) security solution developed by TheoRi. This solution is known as a tool that supports vulnerability analysis and security audits of generative AI services.

Along with research collaboration, talent development programs will also be implemented. The goal is to cultivate practical talent that meets the needs of the field through researcher exchanges, graduate student internships, and joint seminars and workshops. The development of a practice-focused, advanced curriculum is also being discussed.

As AI technology spreads across industries, security issues are emerging as a major challenge. In particular, as concerns grow about the misuse of LLM-based services and the potential for data leaks, the demand for personnel with specialized security skills is also increasing. This collaboration is interpreted as an attempt by industry and academia to jointly address these changes.
