[Editor's Note] STMicroelectronics operates the AI Competence Center, an organization that supports the development of embedded AI solutions. Focusing on customers new to embedded AI, the AICC supports the entire process from the Proof of Concept (PoC) stage to mass production and field deployment, concentrating on resolving challenges in the early stages, such as problem definition and dataset selection. Through its sensor, MCU, and Edge AI portfolios and the Edge AI Suite, ST simplifies the training, development, and deployment of AI models, while lowering entry barriers to development with a wealth of tools and use cases. Furthermore, the AICC provides training and seminars in collaboration with local FAEs and internal organizations, with ST aiming to establish itself as a leader in embedded AI within the APAC AI ecosystem. In response, we spoke with Matteo Maravita, the director of the AICC.


■ Please introduce yourself and AICC.

I am Matteo Maravita, who leads the STMicroelectronics Asia Pacific AI Competence Center and currently resides in Hong Kong.

The AICC team I lead is responsible for overall technical support for customers in the Asia-Pacific region developing embedded AI solutions based on ST's portfolio.

Please explain the key role AICC plays in the Asian region and the strategic direction it has set for the rapidly growing APAC AI market.

The core role of AICC is to support customers developing embedded AI.

In particular, we focus on customers new to embedded AI and provide support from the PoC stage to mass production.

AICC announced that it supports customers from the PoC stage to mass production and field deployment. I would like to hear what differentiated support you provide at each stage and what difficulties customers face the most.

Many customers are often unfamiliar with the core concepts and methodologies of AI development during the first PoC phase.

This is because AI development is largely driven by data rather than traditional algorithms.

Therefore, clearly defining the problem to be solved and selecting a good dataset are critical steps that can determine the success of building the first AI design.

ST's AICC team has been providing solid experience in supporting customers' AI project development for many years by conducting collaborative projects with customers in various fields, including industrial, automotive, and personal electronics.

To give you specific figures, in 2025, over 160,000 projects were conducted based on ST's AI tools.

Please explain how ST's sensor, MCU, and edge AI portfolio simplifies the customer's development process, and what the differentiating points of ST's AI solutions are compared to competitors.

ST has been implementing embedded AI in sensors or microcontrollers (MCUs) for the past decade.

During this period, not only hardware but also software, in particular, has been continuously invested in and improved.

By providing a software and tool ecosystem, such as the Edge AI Suite, which offers comprehensive tools, example code, machine learning models, and resources for training, developing, and deploying artificial intelligence (AI) models, we are continuously lowering entry barriers to support developers in leveraging AI acceleration performance on real-time operating systems.

Through this, customers STYou can be inspired by the diverse portfolio of AI models and use cases based on the AI ecosystem, build AI models through a simple and intuitive process, and apply them to ST hardware platforms in just a few minutes.


Please introduce how AICC supports the customer ecosystem, including training, seminars, and documentation, as well as the structure of collaboration with local FAEs and the internal AI community.

To respond more closely to the requirements of each market and customer, the AICC team collaborates with Field Application Engineers (FAEs) and product marketing and sales teams at ST's Asia-Pacific branches to provide online and offline training as well as client meetings for AI project development.

■ What are AICC's future plans, including new platforms, tools, and educational programs currently in preparation, and what is ST's target position within the APAC AI ecosystem?

ST plans to invest more internal resources to establish itself as a leader in embedded AI solutions.

In addition, we are continuously improving our platform.

■ Finally, is there anything you would like to say to the readers?

I am well aware that the passion of the government and the market for the AI industry is so strong that Korea is referred to as 'K-AI'.

※ Introduction of Matteo Maravita, Director of the Sales & Marketing AI Competence Center for STMicroelectronics APAC

Matteo Maravita has served as the Head of the Asia-Pacific AI Competence Center under STMicroelectronics Sales & Marketing since June 2019. He is currently based at ST Hong Kong.

Matteo Maravita accumulated hardware and software technical experience in various fields such as power supply, motor control, automation, RF, IoT, and smart grids while leading the local system solution lab (the predecessor of the Competency Center) as an engineer at ST Japan in November 2006.

Since then, beyond the Japanese market, he has been leading the center as the leader of the Asia-Pacific AI Competence Center from 2019 to the present. For the past seven years, I have been responsible for overall technical support for customers in the Asia-Pacific region developing embedded AI solutions based on ST's portfolio, thereby contributing to the spread of ST AI technology in the Asia-Pacific region.

Matteo Maravita was born in Milan, Italy in 1976 and majored in electrical engineering at the Polytechnic University of Milan (Politecnico di Milano).
