The Key Factor That Determined the Success or Failure of Physical AI: 'Simulation and On-Device'
Jung Young-joon, Director General at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), presented at the 'Physical AI Frontier 2026' conference held on the 6th at COEX in Gangnam, Seoul, on the subject of "Present and Future of Physical AI: Simulation-Based Wearable Suit Reinforcement Learning and On-Device Quadruped Robot Case Studies." He emphasized the importance of simulation-based learning and on-device AI implementation capabilities for artificial intelligence to translate into actual actions in the physical world. Physical AI is establishing itself as a key technology that minimizes risks and costs in the real world through simulation-based learning and combines on-device technology that executes lightweight artificial intelligence directly on devices, enabling physical systems such as robots and wearables to act safely and without latency in real-world environments.
