“For UAVs, integrated semiconductor and sensor design determines flight performance, safety, and commercialization”
According to Infineon Technologies, when designing unmanned aircraft such as drones and multicopters, the company is providing integrated system solutions that consolidate key unmanned aircraft blocks including flight controllers, electronic speed controllers (ESC), gimbals, battery management systems (BMS), and power management, with the goal of shortening development time and reducing bill of materials (BOM) costs. When applying integrated solutions, increasing power density through the combination of power devices and drivers enables battery weight reduction and lighter airframe design, while the combination of low-power sensors and MCUs extends standby time and improves actual operational efficiency. Additionally, safety interfaces such as PSI5 and product lines compliant with ISO 26262 are advantageous for responding to safety-related regulations such as collision detection and pedestrian protection.
