The Korea Institute of Materials Science has partnered with the Liaoning Institute of Materials Science in China to expand the foundation for international joint research in the field of future strategic materials.

The Korea Institute of Materials Science and Engineering (KIMS) announced on May 8 that it signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with the Liaoning Institute of Materials Science (LAM) in China for international joint research cooperation in the field of advanced materials at its headquarters in Changwon, Gyeongnam.

Under this agreement, the two institutions will pursue the establishment of an international joint research center, expanded researcher exchanges, the sharing of scientific and technological information, and the hosting of joint symposiums and workshops. In particular, they plan to identify joint research projects focusing on materials fields connected to future industries such as advanced manufacturing, energy, and semiconductors, and to gradually expand the scope of cooperation.

This collaboration is focused on establishing a foundation for long-term joint research, going beyond simple research exchange. As global technological competition intensifies and materials technology emerges as a key element of national competitiveness and industrial innovation, the need for international cooperation among research institutions is growing.

Both institutions plan to promote the creation of research results and personnel exchange centered around the joint research center in the future. This is expected to contribute to securing technological competitiveness in the field of strategic materials and expanding international joint research networks.
