STT GDC Acquires Tier 3 Design Certification for 'STT Seoul 1'

Verification of data center infrastructure design capable of simultaneous maintenance ahead of June launch
ST Telemedia Global Datacentres (STT GDC) announced on the 19th that STT Seoul 1, currently under construction in Gasan-dong, Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, has received the Uptime Institute Tier III Design Certification (TCDD). The data center aims to launch services this coming June.
The Uptime Institute's Tier certification is a global standard for evaluating the availability and resilience of data center infrastructure. Among these, Tier III requires a "concurrent maintenance" structure that ensures services are not interrupted even during the maintenance of critical facilities such as power and cooling. Design certification is a procedure that reviews whether design documents comply with the relevant standards during the pre-construction phase.
STT Seoul 1 was designed as an AI-responsive data center supporting up to 30MW of IT load. The level of redundancy in the power infrastructure was enhanced by applying primary and secondary dual 22.9kV power supply, distributed redundant UPS, and N+1 emergency generators. In addition, it is equipped with a network-neutral network structure, redundant communication inlets, a cooling system with a design PUE of less than 1.3, and VESDA-based early smoke detection and gas extinguishing equipment.
This certification was issued at a time when power stability, cooling efficiency, and operational continuity in data centers have emerged as key evaluation criteria due to the proliferation of AI and cloud workloads. Particularly in high-density server environments, where equipment failures or maintenance interruptions can directly impact service quality, the importance of procedures to verify availability from the design stage is growing.
“The acquisition of Tier III design certification for STT Seoul 1 is an important milestone in the preparation for domestic services,” said Heo Cheol-hoe, CEO of STT GDC Korea. “We will continue to provide a data center environment equipped with availability and resilience that meets global standards.”
STT GDC plans to establish STT Seoul 1 as a key hub for its long-term growth strategy in the domestic market and respond to the demand for high-availability digital infrastructure driven by the expansion of cloud, enterprise, and AI workloads.
