Synology has set out to target the enterprise infrastructure market with its first active-active all-flash NVMe storage, the 'PAS7700'. With data processing bottlenecks emerging as a key challenge for corporate IT investment due to the spread of AI, this move expands the company's reach beyond its existing NAS-centric image into the high-performance storage sector.

Synology announced the launch of its enterprise storage solution, the PAS7700, in Seoul on the 26th. Based on high performance and scalability, this product is designed to handle the increasing data throughput and complex workloads of enterprises.

The PAS7700 features 48 NVMe SSD bays in a dual-controller-based 4U chassis. With the addition of up to seven expansion units, the raw capacity can be expanded up to 1.65 PB. It also supports major file and block protocols such as NVMe-oF, iSCSI, Fibre Channel, SMB, and NFS.

Performance focused on high-speed data processing. Based on up to 2,048GB of system-wide memory and 100GbE networking, it provides latency of less than 1ms, up to 2 million IOPS, and up to 30GB/s throughput. The specifications are aimed at environments with high I/O loads, such as AI training and inference, databases, and virtualization.

Service continuity and data protection are also key features. The PAS7700 provides multiple redundancy capabilities, including RAID triple parity, in-memory write protection, and IP and protocol-level failover. It also natively supports data protection features such as immutable snapshots, backup and replication, and WORM.

In terms of storage efficiency, data deduplication technology has been applied. In the future, we also plan to provide a feature through Synology Tiering that automatically moves infrequently used data to low-cost storage.

Synology plans to address enterprise customers' demands for high availability, high performance, and scalability through the PAS7700. The company explained that it conducted verification in real-world environments through an enterprise PoC program spanning over a year. As competition in AI infrastructure expands beyond computing equipment to include storage and networks, this product is regarded as a prime example of Synology's strategy to expand into the enterprise market.
