Snowflake has acquired a Model Context Protocol (MCP) platform company to strengthen its AI agent operating environment. This is interpreted as a strategy to enhance connectivity and control across enterprise systems by extending data-driven governance to AI workflows.

Snowflake announced on the 29th that it is acquiring Natoma, an MCP-based enterprise platform company. Through this acquisition, it plans to establish an integrated governance and identity management framework that supports the connection between AI agents and enterprise systems.

Snowflake announced that it provides an environment capable of connecting and operating various enterprise systems, such as AI agents, databases, applications, and APIs, by applying Natoma technology.

In particular, it supports integration between its own AI services, such as Cortex Agents and Snowflake Intelligence, and external systems through the MCP server library. It explained that this process enables access control management, policy enforcement, and auditing functions through centralized governance.

In addition, an environment is provided that integrates various data contexts, such as collaboration tools like email and Slack, as well as CRM and internal APIs, to be utilized for AI analysis. The plan is to strengthen the linkage between data and workflow through this.

Snowflake explained that the need for governance and control is increasing as AI adoption spreads. According to the company, many companies are experiencing operational and management challenges during the expansion of AI.

The Natoma platform provides the ability to manage the data access and execution processes of AI agents.

The purpose is to enhance the visibility and management framework of AI operations through inter-system access and connection control, user and permission-based identity management, and support for policy enforcement and auditing functions.

The Natoma feature is scheduled to be integrated into the Snowflake AI Data Cloud in the future. The company stated that through this acquisition, it plans to expand its control beyond data management to include AI operations and business workflows.
