Synology is expanding the application of AI capabilities to its enterprise data protection and management platforms. The company aims to enhance data protection and operational efficiency by introducing AI-based features into its backup and recovery software as well as its storage operating systems.

Synology announced on the 4th that it has released its data protection solution 'ActiveProtect Manager 2.0' and the roadmap for the next-generation DiskStation Manager (DSM).

The core of both products is the application of AI-based technology to corporate data protection and management functions.

ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 is a data protection solution that extends the scope of enterprise backup and recovery to cloud and virtualization environments.

The main supported applications are Azure Virtual Machines, Amazon EC2, Nutanix AHV, Proxmox VE, and Google Workspace.

This solution is structured to enhance disaster recovery flexibility by supporting recovery between the cloud and on-premises. It is also designed to store backup data in Azure Blob Storage and enable direct recovery between clouds.

In particular, it includes machine learning-based anomaly detection capabilities.

The system analyzes change patterns in backup data to detect abnormal deletion or data modification.

The company explained that if abnormal signs occur, it automatically isolates related data and prevents recovery that could be damaged.

The next-generation DSM aims to extend the existing NAS operating system into a data management platform.

It is a structure that simultaneously enhances data utilization and control capabilities by applying private AI-based workflows in an on-premises environment.

The system transforms corporate data and logs into a knowledge base that AI agents can utilize. This supports data analysis and IT operations automation functions.

In addition, features are provided to enable integrated management of multiple systems in large-scale environments. Through container-based workload operations, service-specific resource management and migration are possible.

In terms of security, Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and integrated log management capabilities have been enhanced. The company explained that this helps enterprises meet the security and compliance requirements demanded in regulated environments.

Meanwhile, ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 is scheduled to be released in the third quarter of 2026, and new features of DSM are planned to be applied in stages in the future.
