Linux Foundation to Host Open Source Summit Korea in Seoul in August

The Linux Foundation announced on the 16th that it will hold the Open Source Summit Korea from August 13 to 14 at the Grand Intercontinental Parnas Hotel in Seoul.
Approximately 800 participants from more than 12 countries are expected to attend, and 8 keynote speeches, 68 technical sessions, discussions with experts, and networking events are scheduled to take place.
The keynote speech will focus on expanding Korea's influence in the open source field and global software cooperation.
The confirmed speakers are Hong-Rak Lee, Director of LG AI Research and Chief AI Officer; Greg Kroah-Hartman, Linux Foundation Fellow and Head of Linux Kernel Maintenance; Priya Nagpurkar, Vice President of Research for IBM AI Native Systems; Chan-Ran Kim, Senior Manager of Developer Support at NVIDIA; and Jim Zemlin, CEO of the Linux Foundation.
The number of additional speakers It is scheduled to be released within the week.
Angela Brown, Senior Vice President of Events at the Linux Foundation, said, “Many of the world’s most innovative technology companies are based in Korea, and many of them are shaping the future of open source. This is highly significant in that it creates an environment where Korea’s open source community and the global ecosystem can share experience and expertise to build even more powerful technology together.”
Experts from domestic and international companies, including Samsung Electronics, SK Telecom, LG Electronics, Hyundai Motor Company, Hyundai AutoEver, SK Hynix, KT Cloud, Naver Cloud, Kakao Bank, LINE Plus, and the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), as well as AWS, Google, Microsoft, IBM, Qualcomm, Red Hat, SAP, Snowflake, SUSE, Datadog, Akamai, and Boeing, will participate as speakers.
The technical sessions cover topics such as the Linux kernel, AI, cloud infrastructure, embedded systems, security, software supply chain, telecommunications, automotive software, and open source governance.
This event is being held concurrently with the MCP Dev Summit Seoul.
Registration is currently available on the official Linux Foundation website, and an early registration discount of 550,000 won is available until July 28.
Separate discount benefits are also provided for students, academics, and individual developers.

Mouser Supplies NXP i.MX 91… Expanding the Foundation for Linux-Based Edge Device Development
Mouser Electronics has begun supplying NXP Semiconductor's i.MX 91 application processor. The i.MX 91 is based on an Arm Cortex-A55 operating at up to 1.4GHz and is designed to enable rapid development of Linux-based edge devices. It targets diverse applications including smart home, IoT, industrial, and medical sectors, and incorporates EdgeLock Secure Enclave to provide security features such as secure boot, tamper detection, and lifecycle management. Support for NXP's long-term product supply assurance program is also included. Mouser supplies the FRDM-IMX91S board and evaluation kit for development validation, supporting early-stage evaluation and design acceleration through wireless connectivity, power consumption measurement, and preliminary demo exploration.

Theori Participated Research Adopts NDSS… Presents New Path for Linux Kernel Attacks

Kaspersky Releases Report on Linux Kernel Vulnerability 'Copy Fail'
카스퍼스키는 리눅스 커널 취약점 ‘Copy Fail’을 공개하며, 파일 변경 없이 메모리 캐시 조작만으로 루트 권한 탈취가 가능하다고 밝혔다. 해당 취약점은 정상 시스템 호출을 활용해 동작하기 때문에 기존 엔드포인트 보안 솔루션으로 탐지하기 어렵다. 커널 업데이트가 근본적인 대응 방안이지만, 현실적으로 즉각 적용이 어려운 환경에서는 EDR과 SIEM 기반의 행위 분석을 통한 권한 상승 이상 징후 모니터링이 필요하다.
