ETRI Unveils Digital Archive of ICT History to Mark 50th Anniversary

To mark its 50th anniversary, the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) unveiled an online archive that digitally summarizes the half-century trajectory of domestic ICT research and development. It is differentiated from existing paper history books in that it reconstructs research results accumulated since its establishment in 1976 into the form of photos, videos, and interactive content, allowing the general public to access them without restrictions on time or place.
ETRI officially released the 'ETRI Online 50-Year History' on the 23rd.
The public URL is https://www.etri.re.kr/50th/index.html, and it consists of five sections: half-century history, 50th representative achievements, researcher stories, photo and news archives, and digital history museum.
The 50-year history of ETRI, including its general history and thematic history, can also be downloaded as a PDF.
The 'Half-Century History' section organizes major technologies such as TDX, DRAM, CDMA commercialization, DMB, WiBro, LTE, 5G, AI, and quantum technology by year.
The '50 Representative Achievements' section provides the background of technology development and industrial value through infographics.
The industrial ripple effect of the technology developed by ETRI over the past 50 years was analyzed to be approximately 494 trillion won, and it was calculated that it generated an average annual economic value of 9.9 trillion won.
The 'Digital History Museum' provides a viewing environment similar to an actual visit by recreating the interior of the museum in the hospital through 360-degree panoramic video.
"The 'Online 50-Year History' is a digital history museum established to share with the public the records of research and development achievements and challenges accumulated over half a century," said Park Se-woong, President of ETRI. "I hope it becomes a living knowledge platform where future generations can continue new challenges, as well as a compass for Korea's ICT innovation." revealed.
ETRI announced that it plans to expand its archive by continuously adding new research results and content.

ETRI Develops 2,500 PPI Micro LED Bonding Technology for AI and XR
The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has developed ultra-fine bonding technology for implementing ultra-high-resolution micro LED displays for AI and XR devices. The research team realized a process connecting approximately 920,000 bumps at a 10㎛ pitch, securing ultra-high-density bonding technology exceeding the level of high-bandwidth memory (HBM4). This achievement received the 'People's Choice Award' in the micro LED category at SID Display Week 2026, and the related research was published in the international academic journal 'Microsystems & Nanoengineering'.

ETRI Takes Lead in International Standards for AI Smart Cities… Inaugural Chair of ITU Focus Group

ETRI Develops Verification Tool for Quantum-Resistant Cryptography Joint Certificates
ETRI developed an integrated platform called "Quantum PKI Studio" on the 22nd to conduct advance testing and validation of next-generation joint authentication certificate systems in preparation for the quantum computing era. It generates, analyzes, and verifies RSA and ECC-based X.509 certificates and NIST and KPQC post-quantum cryptography (PQC) algorithms, as well as composite, concatenated, and embedded hybrid certificates in a single environment. By visually diagnosing ASN.1 structure and electronic signature status through GUI, it supports verification-based preparation for post-quantum cryptography transition across PKI systems including certification authorities and HSMs. The project, commissioned by the Ministry of Science and ICT and IITP, involved participation from KISA, CryptoLab, and Kookmin University.
