August 31st Seoul, Song Jae-kyung to Participate, Comtus Hive Integration, 40 Teams Selected
OpenAI is hosting a game development hackathon utilizing the coding agent Codex in Seoul. Song Jae-kyung, developer of "Wind of the Country" and "Lineage," will attend the entire event and introduce his journey returning with Codex, and the process of applying release and operation features through integration with Comtus's game backend platform Hive will be covered.
OpenAI announced that it will hold "OpenAI Game Builders Seoul" in Seoul on August 31st.
This is the first game development event focused on Codex to be held globally, and it will proceed under the slogan "Build with Codex, Play with Hive" with support from Comtus.
Applications will be accepted through August 26th on the official website (https://OpenAIGame2026.com), and 40 teams will be invited to the finals through screening.
The event will be operated with two tracks.
In 'Track 1 - From Zero to One: Build with Codex,' games pre-created with Codex will be presented, and winning teams from the popular vote will receive a total of $50,000 worth of OpenAI API credits and ChatGPT Pro 1-year subscriptions.
'Track 2 - Go full Codex: 5 Hour Build' is a hackathon where games must be completed within 5 hours on the day, with outstanding teams receiving ChatGPT Pro 1-year subscriptions.
All finalists will be awarded $100 worth of API credits.
Codex is OpenAI's coding agent that handles code writing, editing, and testing through natural language instructions.
Hive is Comtus's game backend platform that provides functions necessary for game operations such as login, payment, user analytics, and security in the form of AI plugins.
Participants will develop games with Codex and then integrate with Hive through the Codex plugin to complete service preparation.
Oliver Jay, Head of International Business at OpenAI, stated, "Through this event, we hope that developers who have led the Korean game industry and a new generation can share experiences and ideas with Codex," and added, "We will continue to support more developers in implementing and launching their ideas as actual games using Codex."
