ETRI announced on the 7th that at the ITU-T Study Group 21 (SG21) meeting held in Geneva, Switzerland from July 6 to 17, Cha Hong-gi, Director of the Intelligence Information Standards Research Division, was appointed as the new international chair (rapporteur) of the Autonomous Driving and Vehicle Multimedia Standardization Working Group (Q10/21). At the same meeting, one SDV international standard recommendation developed by ETRI and one technical report were also officially established. 

 

 

The recommendation established this time is the first SDV international standard adopted by ITU-T, and defines △SDV service core functions △service management functions △technical requirements for in-vehicle and external connectivity. The technical report comprehensively compiled the concepts and core technologies of SDV, domestic and international industry trends, standardization status, and future implementation directions. Senior Researcher Kim Sung-han served as the editor of the recommendation, and Senior Researcher Hong Jung-ha served as the editor of the technical report. The global SDV market is projected to grow from approximately 213.5 billion dollars in 2024 to approximately 1.2376 trillion dollars by 2030.

 

 

The Q10/21 working group, chaired by Director Cha, is an organization that develops international standards in the autonomous driving, vehicle artificial intelligence (AI), and vehicle multimedia fields. Director Cha is serving as an editor for the SAE International autonomous driving level standard (J3016) and is an international standardization expert in autonomous driving who has been active in ITU-T and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Lee Kang-chan, Head of ETRI's Standards Research Division, stated, "The competitiveness of the automotive industry is rapidly shifting from hardware to software-centric," and added, "Starting with this international standard establishment, we will expand international standardization not only in SDV but also in autonomous driving and vehicle AI fields to support the global competitiveness of our companies." This achievement was accomplished through the Information and Communication Broadcasting Standards Development Support Project being conducted with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Information and Communications Planning and Evaluation Institute (IITP).
