LG Electronics SW Certified Test Laboratory Acquires Designation as Authorized Testing Body for European Wireless Device Cybersecurity

Conducting In-House Certification Testing Without Overseas Prototype Shipment
LG Electronics announced on the 11th that its SW Certified Test Laboratory under the CTO has obtained designation as an authorized testing body for cybersecurity regulations under the European Radio Equipment Directive from TÜV Rheinland, a global certification body.
TÜV Rheinland reviews LG Electronics' in-house test results without conducting separate testing and then issues a certification certificate.
The certification award ceremony was held on the 10th at TÜV Rheinland Korea's headquarters.
The European Radio Equipment Directive is a regulation that requires high-level security and safety technology to be applied to wireless communication products distributed within Europe.
Since last year, requirements have been strengthened to include protective measures related to network protection, personal information protection, and financial fraud prevention.
LG Electronics explained that with this qualification, it is expected to be able to more rapidly reflect the diverse demands of customers in B2B fields such as automotive and air conditioning.
Since acquiring the qualification as an international certified testing body in the software field from the Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (KOLAS) in 2019, the first among domestic manufacturers, LG Electronics' SW Certified Test Laboratory has expanded its response areas to include appliance functional safety, automotive functional safety, and IoT cybersecurity.
Currently, it is also pursuing acquisition of certification qualification for the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) scheduled for implementation in Europe in 2027.
EU CRA applies to all products containing digital elements regardless of whether wireless communication is supported.
Regarding product security systems, the company stated that through 'LG Shield,' it is implementing cybersecurity vulnerability response and patch provision throughout the entire product lifecycle from development through post-launch, as well as applying quantum-resistant cryptography.
Kim Dong-wook, Executive Vice President of LG Electronics' SW Center, stated, "Based on software competitiveness proven globally, we will rapidly provide customers with safer and more reliable products and services."
