R16 is the successor standard to R15, the first-generation 5G standard, and supports ultra-reliable and ultra-low latency communication.

The company explained that this solution has improved the data error rate to 0.001% and reduced the transmission delay time between the telematics module and base station to 1ms, achieving approximately 100 times and 5 times improvement respectively compared to 4G.

LG Electronics has integrated the communication module and up to 12 antennas into a single hardware platform, reducing signal loss between components and simplifying wiring structure inside the vehicle.

The external protruding shark fin antenna can be eliminated, contributing to design flexibility and cost savings for OEMs.

Additionally, the solution is designed to maintain stable connection quality under various global driving conditions, including high-temperature desert environments.

LG Electronics joined the Global 6G Coalition in March last year and is conducting parallel work on standard development and system verification.
