World's First Successful Demonstration of LTE-MTC IoT Service on a Commercial LTE Network
Joint technology development with domestic and international chipset, module, and terminal manufacturers is expected to revitalize the ecosystem.

KT (Chairman Hwang Chang-kyu, www.kt.com) announced that it showcased various IoT services utilizing LTE-MTC technology on a commercial LTE network in collaboration with domestic and international developers, including global network equipment manufacturer Nokia.

In addition, three major IoT services, including smart metering (remote meter reading) and real-time remote management of mobile devices, were demonstrated, and application technologies such as ultra-low power mode and coverage expansion solutions for service commercialization were verified on a commercial LTE network.

In addition, the ecosystem of the Internet of Things is expected to become more active as chip manufacturers such as Qualcomm, Intel, and Altair, as well as domestic and international module manufacturers such as AM Telecom, Telit, and Techplex, and device developers such as Axstone, Omnisystem, and Innowireless, participate in service development and demonstrations.

Going forward, KT plans to accelerate the commercialization of LTE-MTC-based IoT services and explore services in various fields, extending beyond B2B areas such as smart metering and smart factories to B2C areas represented by smart home appliances.
