Energy facility lifecycle provision and sensor-network-service control

KT announced on the 1st that it has opened the world's first KT-MEG Center (KT-Micro Energy Grid Center, Energy Control Center) in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi-do, which can integrate and control energy production, consumption, and trading.

KT-MEG is a commercialization resulting from the integration of KT's ICT capabilities with the 'Integrated Energy Operation Management System' developed through the national R&D project K-MEG (Korea Micro Energy Grid). The center provides various customized services, including renewable energy (production), energy efficiency (consumption), and electric vehicle charging / demand resource operation (trading). In particular, the KT-MEG Center, combined with KT's world-class wired and wireless network monitoring capabilities, enables end-to-end monitoring extending from sensors to networks to services, allowing for the provision of more stable services than other energy providers.

In the production sector (new and renewable energy), we plan to maximize power generation by analyzing causes that reduce efficiency, such as failures, overheating, and dust, in real time, and provide emergency failure recovery services through real-time remote response.

In the consumption sector (energy efficiency), the goal is to reduce energy costs and ensure stable operation through the optimal management of energy facilities. To this end, we forecast heat and electricity consumption demand using intelligent big data analysis technology and provide guidance for optimal facility operation as well as services to maximize energy savings. In the trading sector, electric vehicle charging is expected to expand the electric vehicle charging infrastructure by increasing the target EV adoption rate by more than 150% and reducing the cost of building charging stations by more than 83% through the introduction of mobile charging. In the operation of demand resources, it is planned to contribute to the stabilization of the power grid by maximizing the ability to implement savings, such as by providing a dispatch order forecasting service to minimize customer inconvenience.

Currently, the KT-MEG Center provides real-time integrated monitoring of approximately 1,700 sites, including energy efficiency, demand resource operation, and electric vehicle charging. In the future, there are plans to expand and advance the KT-MEG system by further integrating energy solutions such as ESS and AMI. The KT-MEG Center is located on the 9th floor of the KT Network Control Center in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi-do, where 35 energy specialists are stationed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to handle operations and monitoring. In addition, rapid response to incidents is possible by linking with customer centers located throughout the country.

Scheduled to evolve into an open platform capable of hosting ideas from SMEs and individuals.

Key figures from the domestic energy industry attended the opening ceremony held on this day, including KT Chairman Hwang Chang-kyu, Na Seung-sik, Head of the Energy New Industry Policy Group at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Koo Ja-kyun, Chairman of the Smart Grid Association, Park Sung-chul, Head of the New Growth Engine Division at Korea Electric Power Corporation, Park Kyu-ho, CEO of Korea Electric Vehicle Charging Service, Moon Seung-il, President of the Basic Electric Power Research Institute, and Park Hye-rin, CEO of Omni System.
