The role of a link between the control IC, CoolMOS C7 MOSFET, and GaN switching device 
On December 2, 2015, Infineon Technologies launched the new 2EDN7524 EiceDRIVER™ series for the PFC, LLC, and synchronous rectification stages of switch mode power supplies (SMPS).
Based on accumulated expertise and advanced technology, Infineon has become the first in the industry to offer a dedicated MOSFET driver IC. The new 2EDN series, an enhancement of the existing EiceDRIVER product, serves as a critical link between the control IC and the CoolMOS C7 MOSFET and GaN switching device. The 2EDN MOSFET driver IC enables the achievement of high system-level efficiency, excellent power density, and consistent system robustness.
The 2EDN EiceDRIVER IC is available in an industry-standard 8-pin package and provides two independent, non-isolated low-side channels capable of supplying source and sink peak currents of 5A each. These channels operate with rated rise and fall times of just 5ns and enable simultaneous switching configurations with excellent channel-to-channel delay matching of 1ns, thereby doubling the total drive current.
Since the RDS(ON) of the output stage is extremely low despite the high current, the power consumption of the driver IC is minimized using or not using a very small external gate resistor. In addition, these driver ICs can handle up to -10VDC with control and enable pins, providing excellent robustness against ground bounce and improving system reliability.
Mass production has begun for the 2EDN7524 MOSFET driver with 4V under voltage lock-out (UVLO) functionality, available in a DSO package. Products in DSO package with 8V UVLO functionality and TSSOP package products with 4V and 8V UVLO functionality are scheduled for release in January 2016, while products in WSON package with 4V and 8V UVLO functionality are scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2016.
