Source and sink possible via bipolar output function

Linear announced that it has released an 80V input synchronous PWM four-quadrant output DC/DC controller (product name: LT8714).

This device is ideal for regulating positive (+), negative (-), or zero voltage by reliably switching the output voltage to source or sink current from zero voltage up to 5A regardless of the output voltage polarity.

With its bipolar output capability, the LT8714 can source or sink current regardless of the output voltage polarity. Applications include bidirectional current sources, test systems, high-power low-frequency signal amplification, backbody biasing, thermoelectric coolers (TECs), and electronic window tinting.

The LT8714 operates in an input voltage range of 4.5V to 80V, and the output voltage range is determined by the selection of external components. This device can operate as a current source and can also operate as a load regardless of voltage polarity. This device can be configured as a current source through rail-to-rail output current monitoring and control functions.

The LT8714 features an innovative EN pin capable of slow-changing input signals. An external voltage applied to the control pin determines the output voltage.

The switching frequency can be selected within the range of 100kHz to 750kHz or synchronized with an external clock. The LT8714 integrates a Power Good output signal that indicates whether the output voltage is above or below a set voltage. Current mode control provides excellent line and load regulation. Additionally, it includes overcurrent protection, undervoltage lockout, and soft-start functions.
