Samsung Electronics Launches 2016 'Notebook 9'

Samsung Electronics has unveiled two models of the 2016 large-screen, ultra-lightweight premium notebook 'Notebook 9' and will begin pre-orders on the 28th.
Featuring a large 38.1cm (15-inch) screen and an ultra-slim 6.2mm bezel, the Notebook 900X5L is the first notebook to feature Samsung's proprietary 'Quick Charge' technology, allowing for a full charge in under 90 minutes and providing up to 12 hours of continuous use on a full charge (based on MobileMark). Additionally, a 20-minute charge provides up to 3.7 hours of use (based on MobileMark), and allows you to watch a movie of about 2 hours.
The ultra-lightweight laptop 900X3L weighs 840g, the lightest in its class, reducing the weight by 230g compared to the 2015 model with the same specifications. The 900X3L features a 400-nit display for a bright and clear screen experience, and is equipped with an auto-backlit keyboard that automatically adjusts the keyboard backlight by detecting ambient light.
The two new 'Notebook 9' models feature a 'Consulting Mode' that rotates 180 degrees to allow screen sharing with someone facing you, providing the convenience of looking at a notebook together when multiple people are working.
The new Notebook 9, which uses metal materials to make it more robust, thin, and light for enhanced portability, is available in two colors: luxurious Iron Silver and elegant, calm Modern Pink. The retail price for the 900X5L, based on a 6th Gen Intel Core i5, 8GB memory, and 128GB SSD, is 1,790,000 won, and the 900X3L is 1,710,000 won.
Hong Seong-ryong, Senior Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Wireless Business Division, stated, “We have launched pre-orders in Korea for the first time globally to introduce Samsung Electronics’ latest laptops to domestic consumers first,” adding, “We have unveiled the 2016 Notebook 9, featuring optimized specifications and functions that consider user convenience.”
Samsung Electronics will conduct pre-orders for the 'Notebook 9' from December 28 to January 3 of next year and plans to launch it in early January. During the pre-order period, depending on the model, generous special gifts such as a Samsonite Red backpack, a Samsung Portable SSD 250GB, and a Samsung OTG 128GB will be provided.

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. The company explained that it reduces the limitations of existing security operations centers, which have had to forgo some data due to high cost structures, and enables large-scale data analysis and automation based on open formats and ecosystems. Ecolab Expands AI Data Center Cooling Business Through Acquisition of CoolIT
Ecolab has agreed to acquire CoolIT Systems, a liquid cooling company for AI data centers, for approximately $4.75 billion. The transaction is expected to close by Q3 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. CoolIT has been supplying direct-to-chip cooling-based coolant distribution units, cold plates, and manifolds, serving hyperscale data centers and colocation operators as customers. This acquisition is a measure to address the high-heat and high-density server environments created by AI proliferation. Ecolab plans to combine its water management and digital monitoring capabilities with CoolIT's hardware technology to expand its data center cooling business.
