Increasing Attack Surface and Security Challenges Faced in the Era of 6.4 Billion IoT Devices

Fortinet Korea, a global leader in high-performance network security solutions, announced today 'FortiOS 5.4,' the latest updated version of its cybersecurity operating system, FortiOS. FortiOS 5.4 provides new features that enable the segmentation of internal networks for intelligent threat defense and blocking.

Recently, Gartner predicted that “6.4 billion connected things will be in use in 2016, a 30% increase from the previous year, and will increase to 20.8 billion by 2020.” This indicates that the attack surface and security challenges faced by enterprises will increase exponentially.

FortiOS has the advantage of eliminating the complexity of intelligent threat defense. The latest version, FortiOS 5.4, enables enterprises to establish a layered security strategy stronger than traditional perimeter defense by deploying internal segmentation firewalls (ISFW) and Secure Access Architecture through analytics and one-click capabilities.

Integration of ATP (Advanced Threat Defense) capabilities, enhanced visibility and control through a single UI

A key feature of FortiOS is its integration of ATP (Advanced Threat Defense). FortiOS 5.4 is integrated into Fortinet's ATP framework, including FortiClient, FortiMail, FortiSandbox, and FortiWeb. It mitigates threats from attacks via key mediums such as email, the web, and endpoint devices, or direct network attacks, with a single click, and enables automated threat intelligence sharing.

In addition, through a single UI, administrators can gain high visibility into the entire Fortinet product family and enable smoother control, and perform in-depth analysis through the network bird's-eye view.

The new FortiHeartbeat communication provides detailed visualization of network topologies. This enables CSOs to establish end-to-end policies and configure architectures such as Internal Split Firewalls (ISFW) through the data and analytics they require.

In addition, FortiOS 5.4 enables automatic detection and one-click response, allowing enterprise response teams to effectively identify threats and respond proactively and quickly.

Meanwhile, FortiOS 5.4 includes FortiGuard Labs' new 'Mobile Malware' subscription service. As the use of mobile devices within enterprises increases, these devices are becoming primary targets for cybercrime. FortiOS receives mobile-specific threat intelligence feeds from FortiGuard Labs to provide automated security against threats on platforms such as Android, iOS, and Windows.
