ON Semiconductor will announce, demonstrate, and exhibit a variety of new technologies at the Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC; www.apec-conf.org) 2016, a leading global power electronics industry exhibition held in Long Beach, California, from March 20 to 24.

During the event, seven senior technical members from ON Semiconductor's Applications Engineering and Research teams will showcase the company's key emerging technologies through a series of expert educational seminars and industry sessions.

This session will cover a wide range of topics facing the engineering community today, including design challenges in rapid analysis techniques, small-signal modeling, nonlinear thermal management issues, next-generation lithium-ion (Li-Ion) power management, high-power, high-voltage IGBTs, and other energy-efficient innovations.

Meanwhile, in addition to the seminar, ON Semiconductor's booth will showcase at least 12 of its latest leading technologies to engineers, including some being unveiled for the first time.

High-frequency quasi-resonant flyback controller

High-frequency quasi-resonant flyback is the next-generation small form factor adapter for computing and consumer electronics applications. This device is implemented in a compact form factor while achieving high efficiency that enables high power density.

The NCP1339 and NCP1340, introduced at this exhibition, are the latest generation of high-frequency quasi-resonant flybacks. Synchronous rectification for higher efficiency is a key feature. The NCP43080, with its integrated large 8A/4A driver, offers even higher efficiency from full load down to no-load. This combination of devices is ideal for designing the smallest, most high-density AC/DC adapters available on the market today.

20W charger for smartphones/tablets with built-in Qualcomm Quick Charger and Type-C connector

The NCP4371 reference design demonstrates the new Qualcomm QC3.0 fast-charging protocol over the new Type-C connector. Featuring Qualcomm's High Voltage Power Delivery Port (HVDCP), the device provides an adjustable output voltage from 3.6 to 20 VDC for smartphones, tablets, and Bluetooth-enabled devices.

The charger design includes the NCP4371 fast charge controller, the NCP1361E quasi-resonant controller, and the NCP43080 synchronous rectifier controller. This solution is one of two products certified by UL/Qualcomm to meet the latest published safety standards.

Ultra-compact, microstep motor driver-powered security camera

The LV8714TA is a dual stepper motor driver featuring ultra-energy efficiency. Featuring low on-resistance power MOSFETs, lossless current sensing, synchronous rectification, and ultra-low quiescent current, this device provides a best-in-class energy-efficient system solution. The built-in regulator enables a single-supply system solution with a single chip.

Other exciting new product lines that ON Semiconductor will demonstrate during the show include power integrated modules and high-current IGBT gate drivers, as well as next-generation Ultra Field Stop type IGBTs, LED drivers, PWM controllers, motor controllers and blower fans.
