Realizing Digital Business with Cisco's New Network Architecture

Cisco Korea (CEO Kyung-won Jeong) announced 'Digital Network Architecture (DNA),' which integrates major new networking software technologies and optimizes them for digital business.

According to a report by market research firm IDC, digitalization is transforming all businesses and is expected to create a global market opportunity worth $2.1 trillion by 2019, demonstrating that digitalization is playing a pivotal role in successful business.
During this digitalization process, many networking innovations have been achieved, including Software Defined Networking (SDN), Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), overlay networks, open application programming interfaces (APIs), and cloud management. However, its introduction has been delayed because the technology is complex and efficient integrated operation is difficult.

To address the evolving digital landscape, Cisco unveiled a digital network architecture that integrates key technologies, including virtualization, automation, analytics, and cloud services, along with open, scalable programmability.

Open, scalable, software-based, reducing management complexity and costs while minimizing risk.

Cisco's Digital Network Architecture provides a virtualized environment that allows all services to operate independently across any platform—physical, virtual, on-premises, or cloud—making operations and management simple. This architecture also features extensive analytics capabilities that only a network can provide, including insights into network operations, IT infrastructure, and business.

It provides network-based policy integration and orchestration services through the cloud, and implements cloud agility through the security and control of on-premises solutions. In addition, openness and extensibility are ensured through open APIs at all layers and programmability that integrates with various applications and developer platforms.

Cisco Digital Network Architecture extends the policy-based operations approach that has been driven by Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) in data centers to all areas of the enterprise network, including campus, branch wired, wireless, and core to the edge.

Solutions to support automation, virtualization, and cloud management capabilities of digital network architecture were also announced.

In the automation sector, a new version of Cisco Enterprise Controller software, the 'APIC-EM (APIC-Enterprise Module)' platform, was unveiled, which supports new automation services, 'Cisco Plug and Play' and 'EasyQoS (Easy Quality of Service).'

'Cisco Intelligent WAN Automation Services' automates the operation and management of IWAN (Intelligent WAN).

In the virtualization sector, the more powerful Cisco IOS XE was announced. Cisco IOS XE is a network operating system optimized for programmability, controller-based automation, and convenience, and includes enterprise network function virtualization. Also announced was 'CMX Cloud', a cloud version of Cisco CMX that provides a mobile environment centered on location-based services.

“Cisco’s digital network, optimized for digital business, integrates virtualization, automation, analytics, cloud, and programmability,” said Rob Soderbery, senior vice president of Cisco’s Enterprise Products and Solutions Division. “We expect the Cisco Digital Network Architecture announced today to fundamentally change future network technology.”

Cisco Digital Network Architecture is delivered through the Cisco ONE software suite, providing investment protection and flexibility through simplified software-based licensing.
