Excellent performance of distribution partners Willas-Array, Wintec, and Yosun... China is a key market

STMicroelectronics (ST) announced that sales of its powerful, versatile microcontroller STM8 have surpassed 2 billion units, two years after reaching 1 billion units in sales, and are recording strong growth, particularly in China.

According to the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS), ST’s market share in the general-purpose microcontroller market grew from 8.2% in 2013 to 12.7% in 2015, driven by the increase in STM8 sales. Daniel Colonna, Senior Vice President of Microcontroller Marketing at ST, stated, “STM8 has become one of the most widely used microcontrollers in the world and has become a solid strategic foundation,” and added, “Like other MCUs, we will do our best to support STM8 in the long term and continue to strengthen our market position.”



STM8 operates as an economical and efficient electronic brain in smart devices used daily worldwide, such as home appliances, consumer products, automotive control units (ECUs), and industrial control devices.

This product combines advanced computational performance and a competitive price with memory-efficient coding, low power consumption, high-performance integration, and multi-functional configuration, along with an excellent development ecosystem that facilitates design, debugging, and prototyping. Furthermore, the STM8 sets the standard for robust embedded performance by featuring built-in memory cycling and error checking, as well as outstanding stability for automotive applications.

This record of large-scale device shipments demonstrates that this microcontroller is receiving positive evaluations from OEMs targeting the mass production market, and reflects the active efforts of ST's global distribution partners to ensure the design and application of STM8 devices in various projects. In particular, sales performance in China by ST's largest microcontroller distribution partners—Willas-Array, Wintech, and Yosun—was outstanding, and they are targeting products for export volumes in addition to the Chinese market.
