EMC Korea (CEO Kim Kyung-jin) built a data backup and disaster recovery system for Sejong University in partnership with KT.

Sejong University selected the remote cloud backup service of 'KT ucloud DR' to establish a system for the secure backup and disaster recovery of its rapidly increasing academic management data. KT ucloud DR, which works in conjunction with EMC's backup solutions and appliances, is a cloud backup infrastructure support service that charges based on usage.

Based on EMC backup products with the world's unrivaled No. 1 market share, it offers stable operation, network efficiency, and easy point-in-time recovery, as well as outstanding security. Enterprises require no initial facility investment costs and can flexibly respond to changes such as a surge in data.

Sejong University is now able to back up its academic administration data in a safe and economical way through services from KT and EMC. EMC Avamar, the industry's leading deduplication solution, directly removes duplicate data from the source on the production server, drastically reducing the size of backup data by up to 1/300th, thereby reducing the burden on network bandwidth.

Data deduplicated by Avamar is rapidly transferred to EMC's 'Data Domain' backup appliance at the KT data center and stored securely. Because Data Domain removes duplicate data within the CPU and memory rather than on disk before storage, it further reduces data volume, thereby minimizing costs.

By utilizing this service jointly provided by KT and EMC, Sejong University expects to achieve cost savings of approximately 33% over a five-year period compared to building a backup system directly in a remote location. Considering the costs required for direct implementation—such as hardware and software purchases, space rentals, maintenance, electricity, and operating expenses—the university has secured a top-tier disaster recovery system that is both convenient and significantly lower in cost. Furthermore, unlike the unplanned occurrence of large-scale capital investments every two to three years, operating costs are predictable, enabling the university to secure a stable IT investment structure.
