16nm UltraScale+ programmable logic for heterogeneous computing
Combining HBM memory and new accelerator interconnect technology

Xilinx announced the expansion of its 16nm UltraScale+™ product roadmap for data centers.

This roadmap includes new acceleration enhancements. The powerful combination of Xilinx's 16nm FinFET+ FPGA and integrated high-bandwidth memory (HBM) also supports the recently announced Cache Coherent Interconnect for Acceleration (CCIX) technology, a collaboration between seven companies to power acceleration frameworks across multiple early processor architectures.

Acceleration Enhancement technology enables efficient heterogeneous computing, helping address the most demanding data center workloads. This new product can also be utilized in many other compute-intensive applications that require high memory bandwidth.

Xilinx HBM-powered FPGAs utilize TSMC's proven CoWoS process, delivering over 10x higher memory bandwidth than individual memory channels, improving acceleration performance. Furthermore, HBM technology delivers multi-terabit memory bandwidth integrated into the package, minimizing latency. To further optimize data center workloads, new CCIX technology promises to unlock the efficiencies of heterogeneous computing by enabling processors with different instruction set architectures to share coherent data using accelerators like Xilinx's HBM FPGAs.

“Having already achieved 19 billion transistors at 20nm using our second-generation 3D IC technology, we are continuing this innovation with our third-generation 3D IC for data center acceleration and other compute-intensive designs,” said Victor Peng, senior vice president and general manager of programmable products at Xilinx. “When combined with the next-generation CCIX acceleration framework and our software-defined SDAccel™ development environment, this technology promises to enable a new class of resilient, high-density platforms for accelerating compute, storage, and networking applications.”

Xilinx is already working with leading hyperscale data center customers to deliver optimized configurations and products.
