Space saving and system simplification with a 2-channel bidirectional digital isolator
New MAX14933 and MAX14937 products provide powerful current isolation.

Maxim Integrated Products Korea (CEO Kim Hyun-sik) has launched the 2-channel bidirectional digital isolators 'MAX14933' and 'MAX14937', which provide powerful isolation capabilities.

Maxim's new digital isolator allows for space savings by reducing the number of components and enables more flexible designs by simplifying complex systems. It also allows for bidirectional transmission of digital signals between circuits and complete galvanic isolation between two power domains.

The MAX14933 and MAX14937 are the latest additions to Maxim's ultra-strong 4-channel digital isolator series, MAX14930-MAX14932 and MAX14934-MAX14936. These two new products guarantee optimal speed for time-sensitive applications and minimize propagation delay, skew, and jitter. They provide ultra-strong isolation between two power domains and can be used for over 30 years at rated operating voltage.

Digital isolators replace optocouplers in many applications because they require less board space and consume less power while offering the same isolation capabilities. The MAX14933 and MAX14937 provide high-voltage isolation of 2.75 kVrms and 5 kVrms, respectively. It supports a maximum data transfer rate of 1.7 MHz in direct current (DC) and is available on an isolated I2C (Inter Integrated Circuit) bus with or without clock stretching.

Both products operate at independent 2.25V and 5.5V on both sides of the isolator and provide an open-drain channel for applications transmitting bidirectional data on the same line.

Maxim digital isolators flexibly interoperate with microcontrollers (MCUs) and programmable semiconductors (FPGAs) operating at various supply voltages. They are used in power supply, battery management systems, instrumentation, and interface applications for I2C, SMBus (System Management Bus), and PMBus (Power Management Bus).

Tony Fatou, Senior Business Manager at Maxim Integrated, said, “The Maxim I2C 2-channel bidirectional digital isolator is the optimal solution for designers looking to reduce component count and system complexity.”

The MAX14933 is available in 16-pin widebody (10.3mm x 7.5mm) and narrowbody (9.9mm x 3.9mm) SOIC (Small Outline Integrated Circuit) packages, while the MAX14937 is available in a 16-pin widebody SOIC package. Both products operate within a temperature range of -40°C to +125°C, and evaluation kits are provided.
