IR1161L/IR11688S Secondary Synchronous Rectifier (SSR) Controller ICs Announced

Infineon Technologies (Korea CEO Seung-soo Lee) has launched the IR1161L/IR11688S secondary synchronous rectification (SSR) controller IC family for SMPS applications.

The IR1161L and IR11688S SSR IC products meet the 2016 regulations established by the U.S. Department of Energy and the “European Regulation on Energy Efficiency in Data Centers.” The new requirements demand a 1 to 3 percent improvement in efficiency compared to previous requirements. If an average 2 percent reduction can be achieved with every new adapter, adult laptop users in the U.S. alone could save 525 GWh of electricity annually. This amount of power is enough to power New York City for at least 40 days.


Using Infineon’s OptiMOS™ and StrongIRFET™ MOSFETs together with SSR ICs, which boast best-in-class performance in energy saving, provides a simplified solution that improves overall efficiency for SMPS. IR1161L is designed for flyback SMPS in chargers and adapters, and IR11688S is designed for LLC SMPS in televisions, desktops, silver boxes, micro servers, etc.

The IR1161L and IR11688S can detect 200V directly, eliminating the need for a separate voltage divider. Additionally, these products feature a programmable Minimum On-Time (MOT), ensuring reliable operation from no-load to full-load conditions. Furthermore, their low quiescent current meets the 2016 efficiency and standby power requirements.
