Galaxy Note 7 Unveiled in New York, Sequential Global Launch Starting the 19th
For the first time in the series, both the 'Galaxy Note 7' and the S Pen support the IP 68 water and dust resistance standard.

Samsung Electronics held the 'Samsung Galaxy Unpacked' event in New York, USA on the 2nd (local time), attended by over 1,000 people including global media and partners, and unveiled the 'Galaxy Note 7'.

The 'Galaxy Note 7,' the sixth product in the 'Note' series which created a new mobile category in 2011 by featuring a large 5-inch screen and the S Pen, has attracted the attention of media and consumers around the world even before its unveiling.

Although the 'Galaxy Note 7' is the sixth in the series, the product name was decided to skip the number '6' and end with '7' to unify the number with the 'Galaxy S7' released in the first half of the year, making it easier and more consistent to communicate with customers.

The 'Galaxy Note 7' is expected to satisfy diverse consumer demands for large-screen smartphones and reaffirm its unrivaled position in the phablet market through innovative features and usability. For the first time in the Note series, the 'Galaxy Note 7' offers IP68 water and dust resistance and features a new S Pen that provides enhanced performance and the best writing experience. Furthermore, it is the first Samsung smartphone to feature iris recognition, incorporating 'Samsung Knox'It provides industry-leading security solutions that combine x)' and biometrics.

In particular, it is equipped with the 'Samsung Pass' feature, which enables login and authentication services using iris recognition, supporting more convenient mobile banking services. Accordingly, users can use their smartphones with greater peace of mind in daily life through the 'Secure Folder' feature, which allows personal data and applications to be managed in a separate space.

In addition, it adopts a front edge display for the first time in the Note series and features an edge design that is symmetrical on all sides—top, bottom, left, right, front, and back—providing an optimal grip that allows for comfortable one-handed use despite the large screen.

The Galaxy Note 7 is expected to provide the best entertainment experience by supporting HDR (High Dynamic Range) video streaming, which offers the highest image quality and contrast ratio. The Always On Display has also seen significant enhancements in features such as application notifications and music control. The newly released Gear VR features an improved field of view and is equipped with an external USB Type-C port, enabling the connection of external devices. Through these innovative and diverse features of the Galaxy Note 7, consumers can experience the full range of usability they have expected from a smartphone.

'S Pen' with enhanced performance and writing feel

The new S Pen of the Galaxy Note 7 offers enhanced performance and upgraded writing feel, providing value beyond that of a simple writing instrument.

The 'Off-Screen Memo' feature, enabled by Always On Display, allows you to take notes immediately while the screen is off—such as when a sudden idea strikes—and then pin them up like a Post-it note for later viewing, making it extremely useful in daily life. Notably, for the first time in the Note series, the 'Galaxy Note 7 &Both the screen and the S Pen meet the IP 68 water and dust resistance standard. This allows users to experience amazing usability, enabling them to not only write on the off screen but also utilize various S Pen functions even in wet environments such as rain.

The new S Pen significantly reduces the tip diameter from 1.6mm in the previous model to 0.7mm, and refines pressure sensitivity from the existing 2,048 levels to 4,096 levels, providing a writing experience similar to a real pen. Additionally, the Air Command feature, which provides shortcuts to frequently used functions when the S Pen is pulled out, has been further upgraded.

You can select the area you want to save from actual videos using the S Pen to save only the desired section as a GIF animation, and share it immediately via internet messengers such as KakaoTalk. It also provides a magnifying glass function that enlarges text when the S Pen is brought close to the screen. Furthermore, it offers a feature that translates foreign language words in the web or images into your desired language when you bring the S Pen close to them.

S Pen-related applications have also been improved. Previously, in addition to the handwriting application S Note, there were various other applications such as Memo, Action Memo, and Scrapbook; however, with the launch of the Galaxy Note 7, these applications were integrated into a single app called "Samsung Note." Now, all content written and drawn with the S Pen can be viewed and managed within "Samsung Note."

Iris recognition and 'Samsung Pass': convenient usage, stronger security.

The iris recognition feature newly integrated into the Galaxy Note 7 provides the highest level of security and privacy in conjunction with Samsung Electronics' security platform, Knox.

You can set up security on the home screen not only through existing fingerprints but also through iris recognition, and Samsung Electronics' mobile payment platform, 'Samsung Pay,' can be used more safely and conveniently.

The 'Galaxy Note 7' is newly equipped with the 'Samsung Pass' feature, which allows users to log in to various websites or use mobile banking services more safely and easily using iris recognition, a first for Samsung Electronics smartphones.

When using domestic banks' mobile banking services through 'Samsung Pass', preparations are underway to allow users to log in or transfer funds more safely and conveniently by replacing the accredited certificates, OTPs, and security cards required for existing electronic financial transactions with iris authentication. Currently, Samsung Electronics is collaborating with Shinhan Bank, Woori Bank, KEB Hana Bank, and major U.S. banks to provide mobile banking services using 'Samsung Pass'.

In addition, a new 'Secure Folder' feature is being introduced to store and manage personal information more safely. Important personal information, content, and applications can be stored in a separate, isolated space, and data stored within the Secure Folder is not exposed externally, allowing for peace of mind.

Users can access the secure folder only after unlocking a locking device such as an iris, fingerprint, pattern, PIN, or password, ensuring that data is safely protected even when the device is not locked.

The Galaxy Note 7 features the Dual Pixel image sensor, first introduced in the Galaxy S7, allowing users to quickly capture bright and clear photos even in dark environments. It also features an Edge Display for the first time in the Note series, enabling the use of various Edge functions. Additionally, thinner bezels allow for a more immersive screen experience.

The Galaxy Note 7 supports next-generation high-quality HDR video streaming with HDR technology, allowing users to experience vivid images that are natural and close to what they actually see. Realistic high-definition video is determined by resolution, color, and brightness, and HDR (High Dynamic Range) is a technology that makes the expression of brightness richer and more detailed.

The 'Galaxy Note 7' is equipped with Corning's latest 'Gorilla Glass 5'. It features an external memory slot expandable up to 256 gigabytes (GB), a large-capacity 3,500mAh battery, and supports the new Type-C USB port. Samsung Electronics is also introducing a lineup of exclusive accessories for the 'Galaxy Note 7'.

The newly introduced 'S View Standing Cover' is an upgrade of the existing 'S View Cover,' which allowed users to check information such as time, text messages, and missed calls through a transparent window, and fixes the 'Galaxy Note 7' at a 60° angle optimized for content viewing when held horizontally.

In addition, an additional battery pack called the "Back Pack" that can be directly mounted on the back of the product is also being introduced. The 3,100mA capacity "Back Pack" features IP68 water and dust resistance, identical to that of the Galaxy Note 7, allowing for free use even in wet environments after mounting.

Meanwhile, the 'Galaxy Note 7' will be released in four colors: Blue Coral, Gold Platinum, Silver Titanium, and Black Onyx. The 'Galaxy Note 7', which will be introduced with a single 64 gigabyte (GB) memory capacity, is scheduled to be released sequentially in global markets starting on the 19th.
