Samsung Electronics Launches New 'Gear VR' for More Immersive Experience with Improved Field of View

Samsung Electronics will launch the new virtual reality headset 'Gear VR' in Korea on the 19th, featuring improved field of view and usability and expanded compatibility.
The new 'Gear VR' model, unveiled alongside the 'Galaxy Note 7' in New York on the 2nd, offers consumers a more convenient and stable virtual reality (VR) experience with features upgraded to a new level.
The newly introduced 'Gear VR' features a lens diameter that has been expanded from the existing 38mm to 42mm and a field of view that has been widened from 96 degrees to 101 degrees, allowing users to enjoy a more vivid and immersive virtual reality experience, and can also enjoy virtual reality in a more comfortable environment by reducing eye strain.
The 'Gear VR' features a USB Type-C port compatible with the 'Galaxy Note 7', and can also be connected to the 'Galaxy Note 5', 'Galaxy S7 Edge', 'Galaxy S7', 'Galaxy S6 Edge+', 'Galaxy S6', and 'Galaxy S6 Edge' using the included micro USB adapter.
In addition, the existing 'Gear VR'The external USB hub, which previously only provided charging functionality, can now also be connected to external memory or input devices, and the interior and exterior of the Gear VR have been changed to a stylish blue-black color to improve light reflection when watching VR content.
The device operation has also become more convenient. A 'Home button' has been added next to the existing 'Back' button, allowing users to easily and conveniently return to the main Oculus Home screen even while watching VR content.
The new 'Gear VR' is available for purchase at over 1,100 stores nationwide, including Digital Plaza, Hi-Mart, Electronland, and E-Mart, as well as on SamsungWA.com and online, including open markets. The retail price is 129,800 won, the same as the existing Gear VR model.
Samsung Electronics is also continuously expanding its content infrastructure to allow users to enjoy 'Gear VR' even more fully. Users can enjoy over 300 types of content across various categories, including games, education, and social media, on the Oculus Store.
In particular, users can enjoy key VR videos of the Rio Olympics pentathlon from the comfort of their homes using the 'Rio VR' app, and the closing ceremony on the 22nd will also be provided to Gear VR customers via VR live streaming.
Key scenes from the opening ceremony will also be available for viewing on Gear VR at Digital Plaza stores.
360-degree video content service 'Samsung VR App' to open next month
In addition, Samsung Electronics plans to open the 360-degree video content service 'Samsung VR' app next month to provide more diverse virtual reality content to 'Gear VR' users.
