Combination of SK Telecom Subsidiary Entrix's 'Cloud Streaming' and Xeon Processor
Plans Underway to Develop New-Concept Media Cloud Technology and High-Performance Server

SK Telecom (CEO Chang Dong-hyun) announced on the 6th that its subsidiary Entrix (CEO Lee Jae-hwan) and Intel Korea (CEO Kwon Myung-suk) have signed a memorandum of understanding for media cloud technology collaboration.

At a signing ceremony held on the 5th at Intel Korea's Yeouido headquarters, attended by Entrix CEO Lee Jae-hwan and Intel Korea CEO Kwon Myung-suk, both companies agreed to develop a new-concept media cloud technology and high-performance server by combining Entrix's 'cloud streaming' solution with Intel's Xeon processor.

Entrix's 'cloud streaming' solution is a virtualization solution that runs games and applications on a server and transmits output video to a set-top box. When combined with Intel's Xeon processor, media service operators such as CATV and IPTV can provide high-quality media services to customers in a cloud environment without requiring high-specification set-top boxes.

Additionally, through the high-performance server jointly developed by both companies, data transmission throughput and storage capacity can be maximized while power consumption can be dramatically reduced, enabling cost savings compared to existing set-top box operations.

Both companies plan to complete media cloud solution and server development by year-end and will actively pursue overseas markets centered on China, the United States, and Europe starting next year.

Entrix CEO Lee Jae-hwan stated, "Through close collaboration with global ICT company Intel, we will endeavor to provide differentiated services and technologies to global media service operators," and added, "Through the core cloud streaming technology that Entrix possesses, we plan to actively pursue new business opportunities and overseas expansion."

Intel Korea President Kwon Myung-suk remarked, "Intel has continuously invested in securing cloud technology capable of efficiently processing billions of devices that will emerge in the future and the massive data they will generate," and added, "Through this partnership with Entrix, we expect to be able to provide customers with new and enhanced user experiences based on the experience and technology that both companies possess."
