Samsung Electronics Leads the Era of NVMe Popularization by Unveiling the World's Highest Performance '960 PRO' 2TB
'960 PRO' and '960 EVO' to be launched sequentially in 50 countries starting next month

Samsung Electronics has set out to expand the consumer NVMe SSD market by unveiling the '960 PRO,' which features significantly improved performance equipped with 3rd generation (48-layer) V-NAND.

NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory express) is a protocol designed to enhance the performance and design flexibility of servers and PCs equipped with PCIe interface-based SSDs, and is suitable for ultra-high-speed, high-capacity data processing.

The newly introduced M.2 '960 PRO' 2TB is a product that significantly enhances user convenience by increasing capacity by four times and speed by 1.4 times compared to the existing '950 PRO' 512GB.

In particular, equipped with 3rd generation V-NAND, an ultra-high-speed controller and firmware, and 2GB of mobile DRAM, it achieves a sequential read speed of 3,500MB/s, which is more than 6 times faster than a high-performance SATA SSD, and a sequential write speed of 2,100MB/s, which is more than 4 times faster. This represents the industry's highest performance, being more than 30 times faster than an HDD, allowing a high-resolution movie (3.7GB) to be transferred in the 1-second range and saved in just 2 seconds.

In addition, it achieves random read/write speeds of up to 440,000 IOPS and 360,000 IOPS, enabling multitasking up to three times faster than existing consumer NVMe SSDs. Accordingly, the time required for tasks such as actual boot speed, application execution, and screen operation during game execution can be significantly reduced.

In terms of power consumption, the ultra-low power circuit standard (L1.2) has been applied to significantly increase energy efficiency (5mW consumption) in power-saving mode, and it is equipped with an overheat protection function that automatically controls the temperature, allowing it to be used with peace of mind even in extreme environments.

The '960 PRO 2TB' is guaranteed for up to 5 years or a total write capacity of 1,200 TBW, and supports 'New Magician' software program and 'NVMe Driver 2.0' to maximize the user's product usability and experience.

Meanwhile, at the 'Samsung SSD Global Summit 2016' held at Hotel Shilla in Seoul on the 21st, Samsung Electronics invited IT journalists under the theme 'Journey into the new possibilities' and unveiled its new NVMe SSD lineup and business strategy for market expansion.
