SK Telecom and Intel Sign MoU for Joint Development of 5G and Deep Learning-Based Autonomous Driving
2017 Plan for Demonstrating 5G-based Connected Autonomous Vehicle Technology on Actual Roads

SK Telecom has partnered with global semiconductor chip manufacturer Intel to jointly develop autonomous driving technology based on 5G and deep learning.

SK Telecom announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with global semiconductor chip manufacturer Intel (CEO Brian Krzanich) for the joint research and development of autonomous driving technology and services.

On the morning of the 27th, the two companies held an MoU signing ceremony at SK Telecom’s Euljiro building, attended by key officials from both companies including SK Telecom’s Chief Technology Officer Choi Jin-sung and Intel Korea President Kwon Myung-sook, and pledged cooperation.

On this day, the two companies agreed in the MoU to jointly develop core autonomous driving technologies, including LTE-A and 5G-based Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology, Deep Learning-based image recognition technology, and autonomous driving vehicle platforms.

In this collaboration, SK Telecom plans to provide the image recognition technology and vehicle communication it has developed, as well as actual vehicle-based test environments, while Intel plans to provide 5G modules, deep learning platforms, and base station platforms.

The two companies also agreed to further expand the field of autonomous driving technology development through additional discussions, while autonomous driving With the advent of this era, we also plan to join forces to discover innovative autonomous driving services that will provide new value to customers.

SK Telecom and Intel plan to demonstrate 5G-based connected autonomous driving technology and services on the road by installing the results jointly developed by the two companies into actual vehicles in 2017.
