Successful 5G technology demonstration with China Mobile accelerates global cooperation in next-generation communications
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology passes first round of 5G network provider tests

Samsung Electronics announced on the 9th that it conducted a demonstration of 5G technology in Beijing in cooperation with China Mobile, utilizing the millimeter wave band 28GHz and the sub-6GHz band 3.5GHz.

With this technology demonstration, Samsung Electronics has further expanded its global cooperation on 5G, the next-generation communication technology, to include China, which is considered one of the world's largest mobile telecommunications markets, following its cooperation with Korea, the United States, and Japan.

Samsung Electronics, together with China Mobile, verified the propagation characteristics of millimeter waves and confirmed their usability in various real-world environments, including maximum communication speed, performance changes while moving, and indoor penetration rate.

In addition, Samsung Electronics also conducted tests to introduce frequency modulation technology into 5G that can efficiently utilize limited frequency resources in the 3.5GHz band.

Samsung Electronics signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) last June with China Mobile, the world's largest mobile carrier with a total of 840 million subscribers, promising cooperation on next-generation businesses including 5G.

"Samsung Electronics is successfully securing commercialization technologies for the development of 5G-based technologies and productization," said Executive Vice President Zhang Daegun, Head of the Samsung Electronics DMC Research Center in Beijing, China. "By strengthening cooperation with Chinese operators..." "We will lead the development and standardization of 5G-related technologies," he said.

Meanwhile, in order to be officially certified as a supplier of 5G mobile communication equipment in China, Samsung Electronics passed the first 5G test (Mobile Telecommunication Network, MT-Net) organized by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Communications on September 22, thereby qualifying to participate in the second 5G test.

The 5G tests organized by the Chinese government's Ministry of Industry and Information and Communications will be conducted in three phases, with the second phase scheduled for September 2017 and the third phase for the end of 2019.
