Samsung Electronics Makes Full-Scale Entry into RCS, Next-Generation Text Messaging Technology
Published2016.11.16 12:30Samsung Electronics announced on the 15th (local time) that it is acquiring NewNet Canada, a Rich Communication Services (RCS) technology company.
Through this acquisition, Samsung Electronics plans to make a full-scale entry into the RCS business, a next-generation text messaging technology, and strengthen its related service capabilities.
Samsung Electronics plans to contribute to the faster establishment of an RCS ecosystem by providing RCS server solutions to mobile operators without RCS infrastructure, thereby accelerating the adoption of RCS by operators and expanding the distribution of devices equipped with RCS technology.

RCS is an integrated messenger standard created by the Global Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) that enables not only the transmission of standard simple messages (SMS) but also multimedia, high-resolution photo transmission, and group chatting without a separate registration process.
In addition, interoperability between mobile carriers employing RCS technology is possible, enabling users to communicate in real time through RCS-supported devices.
NewNet Canada, located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, was founded as NewPace Technologies in 2009 and subsequently acquired by NewNet Technologies of the United States in 2014. NewNet Canada possesses world-class RCS technology and currently has partnerships with global mobile operators and manufacturers.

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation.
