Online electronics retailer Element14 is adding three new products to its BeagleBone line of open-source projects.



New products being added include the BeagleBone Black Wireless, element14 Wireless Connectivity Cape and element14 4.3” Display Cape.

The BeagleBone Black Wireless eliminates the need for users to add Wi-Fi and Bluetooth functionality. Instead, the 10/100 Ethernet port is replaced by the TI WiLink WL1835, a high-performance 802.11 b/g/n 2.4GHz Wi-Fi module that also supports Bluetooth. This product focuses on connectivity. It comes pre-installed with Debian Linux and has 4GB of onboard eMMC memory. The BeagleBone Black Wireless is also compatible with existing cape plug-in boards released for the BeagleBone Black.

Developers using BeagleBone Black and element14 BeagleBone Black Industrial can now take advantage of wireless communications with the new element14 Wireless Connectivity Cape, which supports a variety of wireless standards. It supports Zigbee and NFC capabilities, as well as features such as the Texas Instruments WiLink 8 (WL1837) industrial dual-band (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), 2x2 MIMO Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Bluetooth low energy module.

The element14 Display Cape lets you attach a 4.3" color touchscreen display directly to your BeagleBone Black, element14 BeagleBone Black Industrial, and BeagleBone Black Wireless boards. The Cape provides a smartphone-like interface with a capacitive touch overlay and LED-backlit screen, making it perfect for interactive projects, embedded systems, or standalone use.
