Launch of a product line of ESD-safe barcode readers that prevents component damage caused by electrostatic discharge (ESD).

Cognex announced that it is strengthening its attack on the industrial barcode reader market by launching the ultra-compact fixed barcode reader DataMAN 70 Series and the family of electrostatic discharge (ESD) safety barcode readers.

The DataMAN 70 features flexible configuration options and a compact size, allowing for easy installation in confined spaces on production lines or within machinery. Additionally, it is optimized with barcode reading algorithms and individually controlled LEDs to ensure a high reading rate. Maintenance is also simple due to its ultra-compact size of 22.2mm x 35.8mm x 42.4mm and its fixed design. Enhanced image shape capabilities enable it to read damaged or distorted label-based codes.

Cognex announced a diverse range of ESD-safe barcode reader products. With the addition of ESD-protected housing options to Cognex’s flagship fixed barcode readers, the DataMAN 360, 150/260, and 50 series, as well as the wired handheld readers DataMAN 8050HD/HDX series, Cognex customers can now prevent component damage caused by electrostatic discharge. They accurately decode not only 1D barcodes but also demanding 2D Direct Part Marking (DPM) codes. In addition, the robust ESD protection housing provides ESD safety even in harsh environments.

Electrostatic discharge, a phenomenon where static electricity suddenly flows between two objects, can damage electronic devices and cause data errors. It is particularly dangerous in flammable environments, as it can even lead to explosions or fires. Cognex’s ESD-safe barcode readers prevent component damage by using ESD-safe plastic for all enclosure parts and applying anti-static coatings to optical components.
