Used for facilities in areas that are difficult for people to access
We plan to expand inspection items based on the results of the pilot operation.

Drones are being utilized to inspect railway facilities, such as elevated bridges on steep slopes and power transmission lines, which were previously inspected visually from a distance or accompanied by personnel.

Maintenance of facilities in steep slopes prone to landslides or rockfalls, as well as elevated bridges and transmission towers, required personnel to climb up and inspect them directly. This resulted in high costs and time consumption, reduced efficiency, and posed a risk of accidents such as falls and electric shocks.

To resolve this issue, we are transitioning to a system that utilizes drones to photograph and video record facilities, identifies any abnormalities, and implements corrective measures.

First, we have selected about 40 items in two fields that can be inspected by drone, and will conduct pilot operations from this month until October in the Gangwon, Chungbuk, and Gyeongbuk regions, where drone usability is high due to the mountainous terrain.

An official from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport stated, “We will intensively monitor the status of the pilot operation, while also strengthening expertise in drone operation through specialized training and technical exchanges to ensure there are no gaps in railway facility management.”
