Human-centered cognitive software will create more jobs

The 23rd Software Quality Insights was held on the 12th at the International Conference Room of Nurikim Square in Sangam-dong, under the theme of drone and unmanned vehicle technology innovation and jobs created through software engineering.
Hosted by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning and organized by the National Information & Communication Technology Promotion Agency (NIPA), this event was held with the participation of over 700 people, demonstrating keen interest in drones and unmanned vehicles. The event began with a special lecture by Professor Kwang-Soo Cho of Yonsei University on "Human-Centered Perception Software for Drones and Autonomous Vehicles," followed by separate tracks for drones and unmanned vehicles (autonomous driving).
In the drone track, Professor Song Yong-kyu of Korea Aerospace University presented on the development trends and prospects of unmanned aerial vehicles, while CEO Kim Hoe of Withfly Excellence spoke on drone technology convergence and business model strategies. In addition, Dr. Ryu Ji-hyung of ETRI (unmanned vehicle development platform) and Professor Lim Heon-young of Kyungwoon University (AI-based drone autonomous/swarm flight technology) participated in the presentation.
In the autonomous driving track, Dr. Lee Jae-kwan of the Korea Automotive Parts Research Institute gave a presentation on the development trends and response strategies for autonomous driving, while CEO Hwang Do-yeon of Obigo discussed the technology development trends of unmanned vehicle infotainment integrated platforms.
In addition, Senior Manager Lee Ju-han of SsangYong Motor focused on high-reliability safety technology issues for smart cars, while Manager Yang Seung-seok of MDS Technology presented methodologies for developing perception algorithms for autonomous vehicles.
In particular, Professor Cho Kwang-soo (Yonsei University), who gave a special lecture on this day, emphasized Augmented Intelligence , which is human-centered artificial intelligence compared to the generally known artificial intelligence (AI). He stated that augmented intelligence, which strengthens human weaknesses and serves as a complement, makes humans superior and enables them to better manage their work and income.
Professor Cho described cognitive software as "augmented cognitive technology that compensates for human weaknesses" and emphasized that future jobs should also be viewed from the perspective of cognitive science. Addressing the audience's question regarding the relationship between jobs and artificial intelligence, he stated, "As seen in the example of IBM's Watson, more people visited hospitals in Korea that adopted it," adding that "AI can make even small hospitals comparable to large ones." He also expressed the view that if AI acts as a complement, more jobs will be created for it.

[Discussion] Artificial Intelligence Will Eliminate Jobs? Instead, It Will Increase Jobs
인공지능이 사람의 일자리를 대체할 것이라는 전망이 우세한 가운데, 오히려 일자리가 늘어날 것이라고 보는 시각이 나와 주목을 끌었다. 판교 스타트업 캠퍼스에서 열린 인공지능 신산업 융합 포럼에 모인 전문가들은 인공지능을 이용한 산업의 발전이 창출하는 일자리의 수가 줄어드는 일자리보다 많을 것이라고 의견을 모았다. 한국전자통신연구원의 이승민 연구원은 “인공지능과 관련해 일자리 문제는 객관적으로 볼 필요가 있다. 인터넷이 나왔을 때도 일자리 1개가 줄어들면 2.6개가 생겨났다”며 “최근 보고서에 따르면 데이터 중심의 인공지능시대가 되면 데이터 관련한 일자리가 1개 생길 때 BICT(생명공학·정보통신기술) 분야에서 3개의 일자리가 만들어진다”고 말했다.

As AI's share in human life continues to grow, when asked about the most concerning issues, respondents identified 'job reduction and the emergence of new job categories' (30% of respondents). According to a survey conducted by ARM with an independent global research organization targeting approximately 4,000 consumers, the view that artificial intelligence (AI) will interfere in human life, replace jobs, and cause disruption represents only a minority opinion. However, most respondents presented a positive outlook, expecting that rather than AI replacing workforce in jobs, its role will expand in enhancing capabilities and performing monotonous and hazardous tasks on behalf of workers.
