SKT Provides Stable Service at Major Vacation Spots During the Holiday Season
Published2017.07.20 10:20SK Telecom announced that it has completed preparations to provide stable communication services for the summer vacation season, focusing on major vacation spots such as beaches and water parks, including expanding base station capacity, installing mobile base stations, and operating emergency situation rooms.
SK Telecom is implementing special communication measures for the summer vacation season from July 20 to August 31. Based on the analysis of last year's data traffic, SK Telecom forecasts that calls to major vacation spots, such as beaches, water parks, and valleys, will increase by more than 200% compared to normal times during this year's summer vacation period, and has completed base station capacity expansion, mobile base station deployment, and preliminary inspections.
In particular, SK Telecom has designated the period from July 29 to August 6, when a surge in vacations is expected, as an intensive management period. During this time, SK Telecom plans to intensively monitor approximately 5,300 base stations at 703 locations, including major beaches and highways where a surge in traffic is anticipated, through the operation of an emergency situation room, and to respond in real time.
Last year, during the first week of August when vacations are concentrated, telecommunications service usage surged by 195% in valleys, 64% at beaches, and 58% at amusement parks compared to normal times.
In addition, SK Telecom has completed safety inspections of facilities in preparation for typhoons and the rainy season, and plans to operate a disaster management system to ensure rapid situation assessment and on-site response in the event of a disaster.

SKT, 드론으로 영상 중계해 재난구조 한다
SK텔레콤은 자사의 초소형 영상 생중계 장비와 드론 전문업체인 숨비의 드론을 결합한 영상재난구조 시스템을 선보였다고 밝혔다. 양사가 선보인 시스템은 비와 바람에 강한 숨비의 산업용 드론에서 촬영하는 초고화질(풀HD) 영상을 LTE 망을 통해 지상 어디서든 실시간으로 끊김 없이 볼 수 있는 것이 핵심이다. 기존 대부분의 드론 영상 전송은 무선자동차 조정에 사용되는 무선 주파수 방식(Radio Frequency)을 사용해 드론과 조종기 간 거리가 1~3km 정도 멀어지면 중계가 불가능하다.

SKT to Begin Test Driving Autonomous Vehicles
SK텔레콤은 국내 통신사 최초로 국토부로부터 자율주행차 임시운행허가를 받았다고 밝혔다. 이로써 SK텔레콤 자율주행차는 이달부터 서울대학교 관악캠퍼스에 마련된 테스트 트랙은 물론 일반 도로에서도 시험 주행에 나선다. SK텔레콤은 자율주행 기술 개발을 위해 엔비디아(Nvidia), 서울대 등과 협력해 왔다. 이를 바탕으로 SK텔레콤 자율주행차는 지난 10일 임시운행허가를 받기 위한 시험 운행 당일, 일간 강수량 60mm의 폭우 속에서도 안정적으로 자율주행에 성공할 수 있었다. SK텔레콤은 ‘제네시스 G80’을 개조한 자율주행차를 활용해 인공지능 소프트웨어, 3D HD맵 솔루션, 지형지물 감지 센서(레이더, 라이더, 카메라) 등 첨단 기술 개발에 박차를 가할 계획이다.

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
According to the European Patent Office (EPO)'s 'Technology Dashboard 2025', European patent applications last year reached 201,974, surpassing 200,000 for the first time. Korean companies and inventors filed 14,355 applications, representing a 9.5% increase from the previous year and maintaining 5th place by country. Battery, digital communication, and semiconductor technologies led the growth, with Samsung ranking as the top EPO applicant for the second consecutive year and LG reaching 3rd place. The presence of major domestic cities such as Seoul, Suwon, and Yongin was also confirmed. It was also revealed that Korea's European patent strategy is expanding beyond individual technologies to span the entire industry.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK텔레콤이 3월 21일 서울 광화문 일대에서 열린 대형 K-팝 공연에 AI 기반 네트워크 운영 시스템을 처음 적용해 통신 품질을 관리했다고 밝혔다. 공연 전후 3시간 동안 모바일 데이터 사용량은 12.15TB로 직전 주말 같은 시간대보다 약 2배 늘었다. SK텔레콤은 AI 시스템 ‘A-One’을 활용해 5분 단위, 50m 단위로 트래픽을 감시하며 과부하 가능성에 대응했고, 임시 통신 시설과 현장 인력 운영도 병행했다. 밀집 행사와 외국인 이용 수요가 동시에 늘어나는 환경에서 AI 기반 자율 네트워크 운영의 현장 적용 가능성을 확인한 사례로 해석된다.
