LG Uplus and KDDI Host Startup Partnering Demo Day
Published2017.07.24 12:19Following LG Uplus, Japan's KDDI also holds a win-win relay with seven startups on Monday, July 24.
Leading telecommunications companies in South Korea and Japan have set out to promote mutual growth with promising information and communication technology (ICT) startups for the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
LG Uplus held the '1st Startup Partnering Demo Day' at its Yongsan headquarters, attended by representatives from nine startups and executives and employees from LG Uplus business divisions.
Co-hosted by LG Uplus, Japan's KDDI, Global Brain, the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), and the Startup Alliance, this event was organized to discover win-win cooperation models between large corporations and startups.
Starting with the submission of documents in late April, followed by document screening (June 14) and final screening (July 4–July 5), LG Uplus (9 companies) and KDDI (7 companies) were finally selected as startups to advance to the Demo Day.
▲ Industry-leading mobile lock screen advertising platform company (Buzzvil) ▲ Real-time messenger-based collaboration tool service company 'Jandi' (Toss Lab) ▲ EdTech service company that combines games and machine learning with English learning (Catch It Play) ▲ Solution company supporting safety, security, and work efficiency based on real-time location recognition and smart sensing technology (People & Technology) are representative participating startups selected by LG Uplus.
First, at this domestic demo day, the nine startups... domestic venture capitalists and executives from business divisions, including LG Uplus, pursuing partnershipsLG Uplus presented the strengths of its services to approximately 100 attendees and plans to discuss future business cooperation strategies and follow-up investments. LG Uplus intends to establish close cooperative relationships with the selected startups to discuss business collaborations, while also actively pursuing partnerships with startups in the future.
Kim Yong-hwan, Senior Vice President of Partnership Promotion at LG Uplus, stated, “We will strive to further expand business cooperation and support initiatives with ICT startups to create a virtuous cycle ecosystem where large corporations and startups can achieve a win-win situation.”
Meanwhile, Japan's KDDI is also scheduled to hold a demo day with seven startups in the same manner at its Tokyo headquarters on the 24th.

Samsung Electronics discovers startups with mobile ideas and technologies
삼성전자가 모바일 관련 아이디어와 기술을 보유한 스타트업을 발굴 양성하기 위해 ‘크리에이티브 스퀘어 3기’ 공모전을 진행한다. 삼성전자의 ‘크리에이티브 스퀘어’는 모바일 관련 혁신 아이디어를 보유한 스타트업을 발굴하고 지원하는 스타트업 인큐베이션 프로그램이다. 지난 해 진행된 크리에이티브 스퀘어1,2기 프로그램을 통해 현재 15개의 스타트업이 삼성전자의 지원을 받고 있다. 3기 공모전 주제는 ‘모바일 관련 미래 혁신 기술이’다. 예를 들면 최근 주목 받고 있는 인공지능(AI), 증강현실(AR), 모바일 제품군에 적용 가능한 센서 기술 등이며, 기술에 기반하지 않는 단순 서비스 분야는 제외된다.

대한민국 창업리그 우수 40팀 선정, 본선에서 최고 가린다
국내 창업경연을 통하여 우수창업자 양성과 창업 저변 확대를 지향하는 “대한민국 창업리그”가 지역리그를 마무리하고 '도전! K-스타트업 2017'에 출전할 최종 40팀을 선발했다. 중소기업청(청장 주영섭)과 창업진흥원(원장 강시우)은 7월 12일부터 13일까지 이틀간에 걸친 126팀의 피칭경연을 통해 40대 1의 치열한 경쟁을 뚫은 최종 40개 창업팀을 선발하고, 4개 부처(중소기업청, 미래부, 교육부, 국방부)가 경연을 펼치게 될 '도전! K-스타트업 2017'의 출전 준비를 마무리했다.

European Patent Applications Surpass 200,000 for the First Time… South Korea Maintains 5th Place, Led by Batteries and Telecommunications
유럽특허청(EPO)의 ‘기술 대시보드 2025’에 따르면 지난해 유럽 특허 출원은 20만1974건으로 처음 20만건을 넘었다. 한국 기업과 발명가의 출원은 1만4355건으로 전년보다 9.5% 증가해 국가별 5위를 유지했다. 배터리와 디지털 통신, 반도체가 증가세를 이끌었고, 삼성은 2년 연속 EPO 최대 출원 기업, LG는 3위에 올랐다. 서울·수원·용인 등 국내 주요 도시의 존재감도 확인됐다. 한국의 유럽 특허 전략이 개별 기술을 넘어 산업 전반으로 확장되고 있다는 점도 드러났다.

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK텔레콤이 3월 21일 서울 광화문 일대에서 열린 대형 K-팝 공연에 AI 기반 네트워크 운영 시스템을 처음 적용해 통신 품질을 관리했다고 밝혔다. 공연 전후 3시간 동안 모바일 데이터 사용량은 12.15TB로 직전 주말 같은 시간대보다 약 2배 늘었다. SK텔레콤은 AI 시스템 ‘A-One’을 활용해 5분 단위, 50m 단위로 트래픽을 감시하며 과부하 가능성에 대응했고, 임시 통신 시설과 현장 인력 운영도 병행했다. 밀집 행사와 외국인 이용 수요가 동시에 늘어나는 환경에서 AI 기반 자율 네트워크 운영의 현장 적용 가능성을 확인한 사례로 해석된다.
