Samsung Electronics is strengthening its automotive electronics business by establishing a $300 million 'Automotive Innovation Fund'.
The Automotive Innovation Fund will be operated to secure technologies in the autonomous driving and connected car fields, including smart sensors, machine vision, artificial intelligence, connectivity solutions, and security.
Samsung Electronics has decided to invest €75 million in TTTech, a global leader in autonomous driving platforms and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), as the fund's first strategic investment.
Harman establishes a new SBU dedicated to autonomous driving and ADAS technology development.
Meanwhile, Harman, a company specializing in connected cars and audio, has established a new Strategic Business Unit (SBU) dedicated to autonomous driving and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in the connected car sector.
SBU will focus on developing core technologies for safer and smarter connected cars in collaboration with the Samsung Electronics Strategy Innovation Center (SSIC).

Samsung Electronics to add 11nm process early next year and start 7nm in the second half
Samsung Electronics has added a new 11-nanometer process (11LPP, Low Power Plus) to its foundry advanced process roadmap. 11LPP is a process based on the proven process stability and design environment of the 14-nanometer node. According to the company, at the same power consumption as the 14LPP process, performance can be improved by up to 15%, and chip area can be reduced by up to 10%. Additionally, Samsung Electronics stated that it is smoothly developing a 7-nanometer process with industry-first EUV technology, targeting production launch in the second half of 2018.
